Mosquito's are a serious health issue given the recent three fold increase in serious mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika, West Nile, Lyme, and chikungunya (Ref CDC). There is also a risk of having a head on collision given that you have to drive from one side of the road to the other in order to avoid damaging the wheels and undercarriage of your car due to the large amount of damage caused by the cities heavy construction vehicles. Please fix...

This is a serious issue that needs to be fixed. These ponds are excellent breeding grounds for mosquitoes and the dangerous diseases they carry. The damaged roadway presents both a hazard to your vehicle and your person given that you have to drive from side to side in order to avoid large potholes and ruts that were formed by the cities heavy equipment.

Is there an update to this situation? I had communication with Mr. Putnam at Public works back in late October but haven't heard anything since. He was going to have the pavement/roads person look at. It appears that the issue is getting worse with just about every rain storm. Thank you.

Mosquitoes are pretty bad in the warmer weather. Bad enough to not even use the facilities. I’m worried about damage to my suspension and tires, and getting stuck in the mud trying to drive around the pools in the road.

It has been 4 months now since you said you "would respond as soon as possible". Before long we will need an all-terrain vehicle to access this city of Huntsville park. Parks are useless if you can't access them.

Is the City monitoring this forum? If not why not just nix this and save the taxpayers some money? Like the previous commenter I agree that as a tax paying resident I SHOULD NOT BE EXPECTED HAVE TO RIDE MY TRACTOR in order to gain access to a Huntsville City Park! Parks require "REASONABLE" maintenance in order to maintain their safety and functionality! This issue has been ongoing for years now! Ignoring the problem only makes it worse and more hazardous.

I would like to clear up some confusion on this matter. This location is not a city park and the property in question is not owned by the city of Huntsville. It is owned by the Solid Waste Authority. There are some legal issues involved with the city of Huntsville spending tax payers dollars on this site. We are closing this request however administration is in contact with Rocket City RC and the Solid Waste Authority in continued discussions about how we can help in this matter. Dear Huntsville Public Works: While the old landfill that the Trey Wilbourn Model Airplane Park is located on is owned by SWADA it has always been considered to be part of the greater John Hunt Park. There is also a legal vehicle in place for the expenditure of City funds given that the original agreement between the RCRC, the City and SWADA stated that maintenance of access roads and runway (i.e. roadways) would be done by the City and RCRC would maintain all above ground structures (fences, buildings etc).

Most of the current roadway damage, less the drainage issue shown in the picture, was done by City paid contractors when the City of Huntsville repaved the runway in the Summer of 2018.

Minimal filling and patching of damaged areas would allow continued safe access to the park. The City Manager would be the best person to contact if Public Works cannot find the legal vehicle for maintenance of this City park.

Dear T3chDad: This issue was passed on to the Mayors office on 10/22/2018. Four months later no action had been taken. Ignoring the inaction on the part of the City will not fix the existing problems.

"Legal issues" have not kept the City from spending tax dollars on the Park in the past and as such should not be an excuse for spending tax dollars on the Park in the future.
