Description
Would it be possible to please consider removing all of the sidewalk benches and bus shelter benches on and around Park Street until we are finished building all of the affordable housing units throughout the city? The bench depicted in the attached photo smells like human waste right now, and no reasonable retail patron is ever going to sit down on one of these sidewalk benches or bus stop benches until the homeless issue is addressed to the point where they have true and meaningful places to live, where they can cook and shower.

Good morning:
I have called in the report of human waste to our maintenance team who will respond accordingly, if there are additional reports of human waste please call those in directly to Public Works at 510-747-7900 so that we may respond to the issue.
Over the past month, Public Works, Police, and the Downtown Alameda Business Association have been working closely together to address ongoing complaints re: homelessness and individuals needing services throughout the Park Street Downtown. Police is requesting that downtown visitors, business owners, the Association, and staff immediately report observations of individuals needing services to the Police non-emergency number (510-337-8340) so that staff/the Homeless Outreach Team can respond accordingly. (As always, please dial 911 for emergency situations.) At this time, the Police Department is focusing on responding to these concerns and removal/relocation of benches is not being considered.
Thank you,
Alameda Public Works
