During the recent Car Show, some of these benches were just hogged by homeless individuals who spread out their stuff to occupy the entire bench. As a physically disabled person who needs to stop and rest while walking such an extensive car exhibit, I was painfully inconvenienced and did not get to see the whole show because of a lack of open benches. Suggest APD start asking homeless people to move on, if it is clear that they are hogging a bench for an hour and excluding other Park Street patrons.

We've been reporting the problem of these homeless on park street for months now and APD has been ignoring it. APD no longer enforce laws in Alameda. They've allowed the island to be overtaken by crime and homelessness. These homeless regularly urinate and defecate all over property, loiter in front of businesses doing drugs and harm our community, but APD no longer enforces laws so nothing is being done. In 10 or 20 years Alameda will be just like Oakland

I have called in the report of human waste to our maintenance team who will respond accordingly, if there are additional reports of human waste please call those in directly to Public Works at 510-747-7900 so that we may respond to the issue.

Over the past month, Public Works, Police, and the Downtown Alameda Business Association have been working closely together to address ongoing complaints re: homelessness and individuals needing services throughout the Park Street Downtown. Police is requesting that downtown visitors, business owners, the Association, and staff immediately report observations of individuals needing services to the Police non-emergency number (510-337-8340) so that staff/the Homeless Outreach Team can respond accordingly. (As always, please dial 911 for emergency situations.) At this time, the Police Department is focusing on responding to these concerns and removal/relocation of benches is not being considered.
