Need more prominently marked signage for 25 mph for speed limits entering alameda!

Speed signs inside the tunnel too! People start speeding as soon as they go in and get up to 79mph+

If the tube were cut to 35, and prominently marked as such, including in the tube, then we could drop the exit speed to 25. Needs to be marked before the Constitution split, and again at the first stop lights on both forks.

Agreed, but I think CalTrans needs to be involved with speed limiting in the tube. I think it is their property as is some of the land just on our side of the tube.

The signs are only as effective as the enforcement and the number of APD officers is at a record low. We've all seen motorists traveling 20-25 mph over the speed limit. The worse it gets, the worse it will get. City officials know the situation, but getting them to do something about it is a different story.

APD is doing what it can, with limited resources. They are very well aware and know that they are part of the solution, many people have noticed an increase in their responsiveness to situations. And I agree, this is a uphill battle that involves many players, including bringing back the slow down culture that we have had in the past.

I was just thinking this exact same thing! We need 25mph signs really concentrated near all town entrances. At least for a few blocks upon entering alameda.

I add my voice to request more visible signs of our speed limit upon entering Alameda on all entrances.

Hopefully the city staff person assigned will respond to everyone in a timely manner. There are a lot of eyes watching this.

Coming through the tube yesterday i really noticed how small the 25MPH sign is. And badly placed. The 35MPH at the opening of the tube is much bigger and prominently situated.

If the tube cannot be slowed, could we at least have bigger and better placed 25MPH signs?

All main streets used as city-throughfare (Buena Vista, etc.) also need more signs posted.

Last night, 3 young-adult/older-teen cyclists sans helmets were heading east on Pacific Avenue. They blew through the stop signs at Sherman. The last/3rd cyclist nearly got hit by a car heading south on Sherman. Had that car not been going 25 MPH, s/he would have hit that kid for sure, and that's no experience any driver wants. We need 1) city 25 MPH signs everywhere, 2) road rules observed by cyclists, 3) increased APD enforcement of both drivers and cyclists ignoring the rules of the roads.

Could City Employee " Public Works Transporation [sic] Alan" please respond to the community? It isn't a confidence booster that the word, "transportation" is misspelled.

I'm in full support of clear signage at the entrances to alameda with speed limits posted. Alameda city council needs to adopt vision zero and take it very seriously with decisions around traffic to keep our small town feel and preserve the safety of our citizens.

I see that sign every day coming home from work, and it's so wordy and it took me years to actually read it... I don't think many people pay attention to it. Also it says the speed limit will be enforced but doesn't say what it is.

I like the sign, but it needs a speed limit sign above it. Agree that it is wordy. Emphasis on "Courteous" and "Strictly Enforced" is needed.

Agreed, it is a "white noise" sign that I think most people blow right past. I would like to see our welcome to Alameda signage improved throughout with a very clear 25 mph sign. We are starting to see more and more vehicles complying, which is causing a general slow down across the streets, but most entryways remain a continuation of the freeway.

Dave, I am continually hearing that people really appreciate the Slow Down in Town signs that are all over the city, but would like to see the city take a lead on getting some clear city sponsored signage in locations where we are not allowed to post. Shoreline is a great example where additional signage really is needed.

I live at the SE end (near Fernside & Adams) and am constantly shocked by how fast cars are going as they enter & exit the island via Fernside towards Bay Farm. Last night I witnessed several near accidents in under 10 minutes... it's often nearly impossible to cross in front of the school because cars are going too fast to stop (or just don't care to do it). Clear signage as people enter the island AND reminders as people are on their way out that intent to leave doesn't may the speed limit suddenly jump to 40-50mph!

I also noticed that coming from Fruitvale the speed limit is 35 all the way to Park Street. So the blanket statement of 25 mph in Alameda is simply not correct.

J&M, yes there are several streets where the speed is noted as 35mph which is exactly part of the issue and confusion, where 25 mph begins and why the 35 mph roads haven't been updated to reflect the vast majority of our street limits. Its about the overarching intent of the message.

The 35 mph speed limit on Tilden between the bridge and Park St. does seem inappropriately high. When I ride my bike on Tilden I take advantage of California Vehicle Code 21202 and ride in the middle of the right lane thus functioning as a mobile traffic calming device. Been doing it for years and no one has honked. Can't say the same about Buena Vista Ave. which also has a substandard width lane but a 25 mph speed limit. Many drivers seem to be in a hurry in Buena Vista Ave. and they do sometimes tailgate or honk when I legally take the safest position in the middle of the lane.

When I drive in Alameda I also try to help slow traffic down by setting my cruise control to 25 mph. I tend to get more tailgaters when driving at 25 mph than when riding my bike at 20 mph. However that is their problem not mine and I'm proud to be doing my part to slow traffic down to safer speeds.
