We have been asking about a traffic signal for a year. There was another traffic study done, but no report of the results.

Thank you for notifying the DPW-Traffic Division of your concerns and observations. Please note that when considering the possibility of a traffic signal at a given location, we are required to follow the guidelines set forth in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); which is a federally mandated document used nationally and adopted by Maryland and its jurisdictions. It outlines minimum requirements (referred to as warrants) to ensure that traffic signals are used where they are found to be justified through a comprehensive and objective analysis.

Recent 13-hour volume counts along with warrant analysis completed at the subject location has determined that the requirements for a signal are not met at this time. However, please be assured that the comments have been noted and we will evaluate alternatives to address the non-compliance to the all way stop control at this location.

Agree 100% and like we need more traffic lights in Howard County. It’s getting to the point that every other intersection has a new traffic light. That whole town center area is becoming a mini big city area. The traffic has tripled and will become 100% worse once all those building are occupied, Horrible.

That intersection was fine before all the four way stops. I’ve commented on it before because there was only one traffic stop sign on all corners leading into the intersection and now with stops all over the place it’s still a mess. You have eight lanes either going through or turning left/right. Hard to tell when you’re trying to maneuver that corner.

Once the stops signs everywhere was implemented it’s like nobody knows what to do because the traffic is not just one lane into the intersection but two from all sides. You want the traffic to flow freely? Maybe add a roundabout because there’s plenty of room for one but when the traffic is heavy there will be backups and accidents and complete gridlock.

I’ve stopped going through that intersection because of it. It worked before though just liketraffic coming into the Mall roundabout street.

This does not make sense to me considering there are traffic lights at the intersection of Broken land Pkwy and Town Center Ave. because Town Center Ave. ends at a condominium complex that has minimal traffic. At the intersection in question, there is sometimes an unmarked police car during mornings but it is after rush hour. Police presence is most needed during evening rush hour time. The issue is compounded by 4 street lights not functioning along Broken Land Pkwy. between Twin Rivers and Town Center Ave. I've requested BGE to look into this and nothing has happened for a month.

It’s interesting that the next intersection down the road at Town Center Blvd qualified for a light yet it has one less major road feeding into it... hopefully they can at least try to do something to get people to obey the stop signs.

Another accident tonight. Anything happening to resolve this dangerous intersection or does it require a certain amount of property damage, personal injury or deaths? There is a signalized intersection one block away on Broken Land Parkway @ Town Center Blvd yet this intersection has far more car and pedestrian activity. Please explain the rationale for no signal.

Immediately after almost being hit, the car next to me almost got hit. Fortunately we all managed to stop ourselves. We heard from a relative who lives in the Town Center that a car had flipped over in that intersection. Once the lanes were added between the apartment buildings as well as the turn lane on to twin rivers, this intersection has become really difficult. How many accidents need to happen?

It seems that like everything else in Columbia they wait until things get really bad until somebody does something and, unfortunately, no matter what the problem they just don’t do anything and think we’ll forget things are deteriorating for all.
I’ve been saying, and others too, from the get go that the traffic flow was fine when the oncoming traffic had the right of way and everyone else had to stop (just like all other entrances/exits) around the Mall. Does somebody have to die before anything is done?
I don’t know what else the traffic folks need to hear or see that this intersection has become a russian roulette area. I go around and out of my way than try to drive by this intersection.

I also want to point out that whether it’s a speed bump in a neighborhood or a traffic light it doesn’t take LESS cars to kill somebody. Why do we pay taxes for in Howard County? Just more over development and overcrowding?
