To add to my original post, we have 4-paned windows and the horns are still very loud. Again, it's not the horns during the day that are bothersome, just the noise level at night. Those trains that pass by around 11pm, 2am, 4am, 5am really disturb my sleep. I speak as a homeowner as well. Emeryville seems like a wonderful city and has so much potential to be even greater, but this middle of the night noise is a problem, and I can see how that would keep home values here depressed, which is bad for homeowners, local businesses, and in turn city revenues. I read through some of the comments on other posts about the same issue and see that some residents like the train horns because they've been around for a long time. I respectfully disagree with these opinions - the city is changing to be more residential than industrial and as such, the city should address concerns of new residents. The city should work with both new and long time residents to find a suitable solution. From my new resident perspective, I just want to be able to sleep peacefully in the night. I don't care about the trains during the day.
