Description

In order to traverse Niles Beach from North to South safely, a pedestrian must use the decrepit sidewalk on the Eastern Side of the Road. This sidewalk is a mixture of piled up sand, broken concrete and broken asphalt. Ok, I understand the City is short of money and can't afford to fix this. However at the Northern end of this sidewalk a pedestrian is forced into the highway because of a huge area of poison ivy. Surely it would not cost much to get rid of this? Further on, moving North one encounters a Utility complex which once again forces one into the street. After that the sidewalk evaporates forcing one to cross the road at the bend - an extraordinarily dangerous spot where cars speed down the hill coming from downtown Gloucester. Just ask the residents of 1 Eastern Point Boulevard how many times cars crash into the barrier at that corner. I know of at least three incidents this year.

I have asked various councillors over the past seven years to look into this issue and have written on Click Fix to no avail. I do think it is time the DPW took a serious look at improving the look and safety of the Niles Beach area. At the very least removal of the poison ivy would certainly help.
