Absolutely right.. ..these rain soaked barriers are filled with putrid water...and they are utterly disgusting..there really wasn't any justifiable reason to damage the sidewalk here to begin with...ridiculous.

Tao, the sidewalk along 40th Street is closed because of a housing construction project on the BART property, which will entail rebuilding the sidewalks and other infrastructure along the frontage. I worked with the city to ensure that pedestrian access would be maintained on both sides of 40th throughout the construction process, so I do appreciate the walkway that was installed. However, I also want to make sure that the barriers provide appropriate protection for pedestrians in the event of a crash, which means filling them with water as intended.

This project is a disaster...it also destroyed 2 historic resources that housed low income residents , primarily single room occupancy men..some of whom are probably now tent dwellers..and it destroyed the lifetime of community service from the historic Black owned business Lee's Auto Laundry...and their business and their legacy in our community. These barriers are filthy by the way...teeming over with toxic stagnant water...It's not your fault..it's the gold rush fever of the city council and a @#$% planning commission.
