This sign contains a spelling error, odd content, and weird, inconsistent fonts. This makes us look bad to visitors who come from all over to visit our community.
-Spelling error: "Historice"
-Historic sites is listed twice and this is confusing
-The size (both height and width) of the fonts is all over the place
-Italics doesn't look good on any street signs

I am seeing a lot of bad looking new street signs throughout the city lately. The older signs have simple consistent fonts and are not italicized. The city should consider returning to the former standard.

WOW! This is so embarassing! That font is horrible and difficult to read. I'm seeing it all over town. Another issue is the way the arrows are scaled. The should be cropped not resized that way. Please hire a qualified designer.

Happy to say I did not make this sign. One arrow would be suffice. Italic fonts look awful and all fonts look stretched and inconsistent. No need for sections of everything is straight ahead, but I assume other signs have arrows pointing other directions so that may be needed. Let me know if you need help remaking the new replacements.

As if visitors don't already have enough trouble navigating Salem. Plus, as others have mentioned, this is just plain embarrassing. Please fix immediately vs. adding to the bottom of a list.

Follow internationally recognized symbol/icon standards from ISO. There's also a nice library from AIGA that should be reviewed. Above all, test!

Shouldn't 'Downtown' be all one word? Who signs off on signs? If not a manager, it's time. If a manager (!), better bump it up a notch or two. How did it get from the purchasing process to receipt to installation with no questions?

I have also been irritated at these new signs popping up around town, which do not appear to follow any consistent design language and deviate from accepted standards. I haven't specifically researched, but do they conform with standards in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices? At any rate, I detest the new signs. The design does nothing to improve their usability and, in fact, detracts from it.

This is totaly unacceptiable .... this is not the first public, highly visable embarrasment for the city.... nor is it the second, third or forth time. The time is now, for the Mayor and City Council step up and apoligise for hiring uneducated, ignorate city employees.

There are just so many things wrong with this sign.

- The ridiculous spelling error
- The disastrous font scaling
- Downtown and waterfront should not have spaces
- The weird symbols (what on earth is the museum one supposed to be depicting? A pencil? A church with a weird extension?)
- The unevenly scaled, misaligned arrows
- The uneven spacing between the boxes
- The inconsistent rounded/square corners

The signwriter and whomever signed it off should be embarrassed. These signs are cheap and nasty, and make Salem look terrible to tourists.

This isn't bad, it's just sad and the least of Salem's embarrassments. The real issue is that someone looked at this and said "Looks good to me!" and allowed it to be put up. Then again, maybe no one approved it at all, which is even worse.

If they fix it they should make sure they add directions to the carnival lot that we are paying $1.4 million to buy. A playground next to a gas station where the homeless hang out, along side the polluted water and across from the boardwalk that has proven to be nothing but trouble. I see a carnival coming to Salem Common. Awesome!!

I suggest it be revised to point to Mayor Kim's house... "the buck stop's here" I'm sure as she always does.... pass the buck or refuse to address the issue.
