The project you are referencing is a resurfacing project intended to preserve and extend the life of the pavement. The addition of an island would require extensive reconstruction. This crosswalk island is called for in the City's Nonmotorized Plan, from 2013. It's listed under "Near-term Opportunities", and the section on crossings specifically says that this kind of island should be done before a reconstruction project. "The Near-term Opportunities Recommendations were designed to be cost-effective and easily implemented by minor changes such as re-
striping the existing road surface and the additions of crossing islands. These simple solutions will enhance bicycle and pedestrian conditions quickly and easily until the road is expanded or major reconstruction is undertaken."

Could someone please explain why a City Council-adopted planning document is being ignored here?

Wait until the recently re-surfaced road is destroyed by the North Sky construction, maybe then we will get the islands on the next re-surfacing. The patch from the recent water/sewer work is horrendous, will only get worse. Coordination efforts between city, county and private development are poor.

That is a bad patch. I'm hoping it's because it was too cold, and that a permanent patch will be applied next spring.
