Definitely the type of place lacking here. Liuzzi's is another model for what might work. Would be a fabulous addition to the neighborhood.

(Dry cleaners can sometimes require environmental remediation if they clean clothes on-site, which I don't think this one does).

There are a few possible business owners that are checking out Westville for that purpose. But I believe Doyle's rents to space, and the Landlord would have to be dealt with to make it happen.

Does anyone know someone at Nica's? Maybe we could approach them to suggest they expand into Westville.

Nica's has good food but no regard for issues that effect pedestrian, bike, or car safety (there have been many Independent stories on their attempts to expand and their disregard for important issues). They also run their delivery trucks at disruptive hours, much to neighbors' frustrations. I'd love to see a different owner come in.

There appears to be a lot of commercial space available in the village. Perhaps a better site for this type of business with parking, etc. This is primarily a residential neighborhood and something on the scale of Nica's or Liuzzi's doesn't seem reasonable.

One of the goals of having a local deli or grocer would be to increase the walkability of Westville. Having more retailers within walking distance of our homes would increase all our property values. Pushing retailers toward spaces with parking lots would do the opposite.

Businesses close up when they don't make money. Pretty obvious this place wasn't cracking it. People in Westville want everything but are too cheap to pay for it. Try Stop and Shop in Woodbridge.

Last time I looked the village was within walking distance and has established retailers. The addition of another viable business would benefit all.

While Nica's may have some the ire of some folks. Most traffic at all the orange street markets is indeed walk in or street parking to grab a quick bite. P&M, for example, who also has a location in Branford has a ton of firemen, cops and contractors who stop by all day. The neighborhood would really benefit from that place you can either run to get that onion while you're mid-cooking emergency, or want to walk to get a breakfast sandwich with and run into neighbors. This space seems perfect for that patio sidewalk eating space.

I know that some have talked to Orange st. proprietors before and their belief was that there aren't enough grad students to may the day traffic busy, but I think there are plenty of work from home, retirees, etc. that would make a good place profitable. Also, if the kids is supposed to be down for a nap you might be able to run down the street with them in a stroller, but not get in your car! wink. Harborview Market in Black Rock, Bridgeport is really good example. It's become an institution for retired and semi-retired types during the day. (not to mention the cookies are amazing).

Manjares helped fill a void as well after coming out of Lulu's, right? I think another place with more of a small grocery slant would be great!

Check out this story about a crowdfunding platform for communities interested in bringing culinary concepts to their neighborhoods. (There are other online platforms for this, but this one is working with JLL, which i think is the second largest real estate firm in the world.) Using this approach would elevate any pitch Westville might make to bring a new marketplace/wine store/grocer to the Doyle's space.

I live on this street and I am not anxious to have a business that increases traffic and/or creates more parking issues.I am also not interested in delivery trucks blocking the street causing more congestion. The village is absolutely within walking distance and the businesses there deserve our support if they are to succeed. Right now there are several retail spaces available for companies to investigate in the village.. If i want an onion or a carton of milk, I can walk to the corner store. If I want a coffee or sandwich or to meet up with neighbors I can walk to Deja Brew. Trying to make Westville a replica of East Rock? Move to the graduate get to and enjoy the high prices charged at Nica's.

I live on the street as well Liz and am not worried about parking. It would be wonderful to have more retail from my perspective but we can agree to disagree. That's really neat Jay. Thanks for posting.

As some of you might know the Westville Quality Market has started to match its inventory to the requests of neighbors. For the past two months they have started to sell local beer and on Monday they will start to sell Organic local Milk, Eggs and Ice Cream from Farmer's Cow. Please stop in and support them on Monday.

Additionally, the Quality Market is for sale if someone is interested in opening a market.

Hopefully, the new and improved Westville Quality Market will continue to be successful in our neighborhood!

Haha we do. Sunny's Deli on Whalley.

This has been open for over a year. Don't you think perhaps there are better uses for that building? A book store, a daycare, another cleaners might be more useful to our neighborhood.

To me I find westville quality market very reasonable and friendly. With the items increasing daily they just started carrying farmers cow milk and ice cream. Atleast he is not one of those owners who dont even know who his customers are. And Since we are talking about sunnys deli I dont buy my cold cuts there anymore because of roach problem i read online from another customer.

Reopening as there is still not a deli in the neighborhood.
