Yet another case of trying to address the effect of a problem rather than the cause. WHY are motorists making illegal "right on red" turns throughout the City? I know - because the lights do not function properly. The solution is NOT to install yet more questionable technology such as red light cameras, installing traffic "calming" measures or consuming police resources by stationing officers at intersections to issue tickets. No. The permanent solution is to understand why the traffic signal management systems are not functioning as they were intended to when the City purchased them - hold the vendor responsible and fix them. Drive around other towns who've been using smart lights since the mid 1980s - why do theirs work and ours don't? How about modifying the street smart slogan in New Haven to "safe streets take smart lights"?
