Waste Management trucks have been driving recklessly in my neighborhood for years and ejecting garbage out of the back of the trucks.
I complained to WM many times andalso called the City of Oakland Contract Administrator, but it seems that City is very cozy with WM and the probem just never gets solved.

"SeeClickFix encouraging residents to become active citizens in taking care of and improving their city by reporting non-emergency issue in their neighborhood."
Just because I'm not requesting that DPW fix a pothole or replace a broken speed sign doesn't mean this is necessarily the wrong forum for this post.

To mballard;
Waste Management has a contract with the City of Oakland to provide garbage pickup services. I have no doubt that violations of the law are not permitted by this contract. The Oakland Police Department ticketing WM for moving violations? That is a joke. Since it is all about MONEY with WM, complain to the Contract Administrator in the Business Division and insist on finding out the results. I have called WM many times. They are SO SORRY, but nothing changes.

My opinion on all of it is that conventional channels to address questions/concerns seem to go nowhere. Calls are never returned, emails bounce back, or even finding the proper department to contact can be a nightmare. I've experienced it many times trying to get help with the city or a related agency, only to throw my hands up at it all. I work in a local government agency and know firsthand how ridiculous it all is.
This site may have started as a place to report infrastructure issues, but obviously it's filling a necessary void for many as a place to gather information to better their community. I don't feel anyone should be dismissed for that. However, interpreting the emotion behind someone's commentary online can almost always be misconstrued; everyone is guilty of that from time to time. Personally, I will continue to use the site as I have been and if there is something that I can contribute to, great! But if not, I just don't respond to it. Overall, it's been very helpful for me for reporting issues and getting feedback.

That's discouraging to hear, Sentinel. How is your neighborhood parking problem, by the way? Neighbor still illegally blocking off spaces?
When I don't know how to approach something, I usually email my Neighborhood Services Coordinator and she points me to the right dept or contact person. She's been a great resource.

Hello Eileen,
No change in the unlawful encrochment issue. It doesn't look like Public Works is up to doing anything, so I'll try the Neighborhood Services Coordinator. Thanks for the advice, Eileen.

To Eileen,
The reality is that people who use cones in front of their homes are "territorial" types and tend to overreact when they feel you are a "threat" to their "space". Again, I am going to try the Neighborhood Services Coordinator and let them take the heat on this one.
