Description
My original request number was 5170778 looking at issues with traffic queuing during peak hours. I understand that changing signal phasing for the side streets may not be an option based on the intersection design, but would it be possible to change the lane use for the Berger Road approach?
Around 5:45PM yesterday, we were coming up Berger Road towards Snowden River Parkway. Almost all of the traffic was in the right lane, and most seemed to be turning right. However, when the light turned red, if the lead vehicle was going through, the right turns could not turn on red. Queues reached 15-20 vehicles, and we sat almost sat through 3 cycles.
Would it be possible to change this approach so that the right lane is right-turn only?

Thank you for your enquiry. Although, revising lane assignment is an acceptable design practice; combining the through movement with the left turn movement on Berger Road would create a travel path for the through movement that conflicts with the grass median on the far side of the intersection (Carved Stone). But, we will be sure to revisit the signal timing to address your concern regarding queuing occurring on Berger Rd during rush hour.
Once again, Thank you for reporting your issue/request to the Howard County Department of Public Works. This issue has been addressed and will be closed in Tell HoCo. If you require more information, please contact Department of Public Works Highways office 410-313-2430.
