The expansion material in portions of the sidewalk concrete panel gaps along our property line have come out. Now weeds are growing in these gaps, and when the weeds are pulled out or maintained by me or our HOA, more of the expansion material comes out.

We need new expansion material placed in these gaps and sealed properly.

  • Carved Stone & Snowden River Pkwy Columbia, MD, 21045, USA - Columbia

For the northbound Berger Road approach, it would be helpful to change the lanes to a left/thru and right only. Since the side streets have the split phasing, there is no need to make the right turns wait behind thru vehicles.

In my last case, # 6021542, I was told the alignment of that approach would put drivers in the grass median on the other side of the intersection if going straight from the left lane. I respectfully disagree. The alignment from that left lane would almost directly out them in the left lane on Carved Stone. There is already a keep right sign in that median to help drivers avoid the median. If there is a concern over vehicle paths, a dotted line could be installed across the intersection to help drivers.

The current lane assignment is not typical for most intersections with this type of split phasing in our area since people expect the the lefts and throughs to share a lane.

    Please reconsider this.

This intersection needs a light. It backs up even when the shopping center is not that busy. Sometimes the queue reaches back even with the Best Buy when trying to go towards the signal coming from Lowes.

If a signal cannot be justified, change the westbound right turn lane to a shared thru/right. Not that many people turn right there. A roundabout should also be considered.

  • All Saints Rd & Md-216 E Laurel, MD, 20723, USA - North Laurel

These signals need to have better detection so that the green light changes more quickly when there is no traffic present on an approach to one of them. More specifically, during the PM rush hour on weekdays, there is not much traffic making the left turn in the eastbound direction during the PM rush, but the green light seems to stay there for several seconds after all vehicles have cleared. Because of this unnecessary green time, traffic on westbound 216 gets really backed up since there is only a single lane for through traffic, sometimes it backs up almost to the light at Baltimore Avenue.

I understand that this might be the responsibility of the State since it is at State Route 216. If it is, please forward this message to them.

  • Broken Land Pkwy Columbia, MD, 21046, USA - Columbia

These signals need to have better detection so that the green light changes more quickly when there is no traffic present on an approach to one of them. More specifically, it would be helpful if the light changed more quickly from green to red for the traffic coming out of the park-and-ride lots. During certain times of day and on certain days, mostly weekends, if one vehicle exits the lot, the light still sits on green for that direction for several more seconds unnecessarily.

I understand that this might be the responsibility of the State since it is at/near MD 32. If it is, please forward this message to them.

I have seen other complaints about the markings not being redone since repaving. We were told at the end of June it would be done in the coming weeks. The paving was done more than 6 weeks ago. Please tell us the date that the contractor will finish the permanent markings. It is unsafe for temporary markings to be utilized for this length of time on a busy road.
  • 10001-10013 Wincopia Farms Way Laurel, MD, 20723, USA - North Laurel

People who do not live in our community are parking right near the entrance next to Gorman Road. They walk to the tunnel underneath Gorman to access the baseball fields. Often, people park really close to the Gorman Road intersection, and it makes turning very difficult and dangerous. If someone turns in from Gorman to Wincopia Farms Way with cars present, they often have to stop in the middle of the road. If this is a left turn, they might get stuck and potentially hit by an oncoming vehicle.

If Wincopia Farms Way has been dedicated to the County, please look into posting No Parking Signs along that road between Gorman Road and the first house driveway on the inbound side of the road. This regulation should be on both sides of the roadway. Even if people continue to park in the neighborhood to use the ballfields, at least they will be away from the main intersection and make operations much safer.

My original request number was 5170778 looking at issues with traffic queuing during peak hours. I understand that changing signal phasing for the side streets may not be an option based on the intersection design, but would it be possible to change the lane use for the Berger Road approach?

Around 5:45PM yesterday, we were coming up Berger Road towards Snowden River Parkway. Almost all of the traffic was in the right lane, and most seemed to be turning right. However, when the light turned red, if the lead vehicle was going through, the right turns could not turn on red. Queues reached 15-20 vehicles, and we sat almost sat through 3 cycles.

Would it be possible to change this approach so that the right lane is right-turn only?

  • 10032-10046 Gorman Rd Laurel, MD, 20723, USA - North Laurel

Now that the intersection of Gorman and Skylark is an all-way stop, is there going to be any follow-up study to determine if a signal or roundabout is feasible here? It would be helpful to have studies conducted at the following intersections with all-way stops to consider signals or roundabouts: Gorman / Skylark, Murray Hill / Vollmerhausen, Gorman / Leishear, Gorman / Murray Hill, Guilford / Gerwig, Guilford / Oakland Mills.

I understand this is a long list of intersections, but I wanted to find out which ones could be studied in the short-term or if there are already any plans to convert any of these intersections.

  • 102 Commerce Drive Fort Washington, Pennsylvania - Fort Washington
During times of low traffic, if you are in a vehicle waiting on Commerce Drive to turn left onto Pennsylvania Avenue, the wait is quite long. I can understand that the signals along Pennsylvania are coordinated, but during off-peak times, especially overnight, when there is very little traffic on any of the roads in that area, a 2-minute wait seems excessive. Please consider changing the timing or detection to reduce the wait time and make the light more actuated.
  • 9510 Snowden River Parkway Columbia, Maryland - Columbia
The median along Snowden River from Broken Land up through the Wegmans is really tough to see at night, and more so when it rains at night. I have seen multiple motorists hit the curb in the dark, and I have come close multiple times. Please install a yellow line next to the curb along the median to help drivers keep their path.
  • 9502 Berger Road Columbia, Maryland - Columbia

A study should be done to determine if the phasing for the side streets could be changed to allow lefts to go in both directions and then throughs and rights. It seems like volumes during busy times don't justify splitting the time between the two approaches individually. This could give more green time to Snowden River Parkway and help traffic move better during rush hour.

This should also be considered at the Minstrel Way signal.

  • 7075 Minstrel Way Columbia, Maryland - Columbia
Would it be possible to create an auxiliary/weaving lane on EB Snowden River Parkway between Broken Land Parkway and Minstrel Way? For motorists turning right from NB Broken Land Parkway, they all have to merge, and in heavy traffic during evening rush hour, giving some extra merging distance would help, also not forcing those wishing to turn right at Minstrel to merge in and then off again.
  • 9500 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, Maryland - Savage-Guilford

Since this intersection is an all-way stop, the cross-street warning sign on the EB Guilford approach should be removed or replaced with a stop-ahead warning sign. The cross-street warning sign indicates to drivers that they are coming up on an intersection but do not have a stop, so it conflicts with the actual stop condition. There may be similar signs on other approaches to the intersection that may have to be removed.

Is there any follow-up information available on considering a traffic signal or roundabout for this intersection? The queues on SB Oakland Mills Road during the PM rush hour are seriously extensive approaching this intersection.

  • 9305 Gerwig Lane Columbia, Maryland - Columbia

Now that this intersection is an all-way stop, the signs indicating the side street warning should be removed. Those signs typically tell drivers that an intersection is coming up but does not require a stop. There is the advance warning sign for the stop along Guilford coming from Murray Hill, so the first warning sign with the side street indication should be removed.

There may be a sign along Gerwig approaching the intersection that should also be removed.

  • 8221 Gateway Overlook Drive Elkridge, Maryland - US Congressional District MD3
A traffic signal or roundabout should be provided here. The all-way stop is not helpful for shoppers and results in long queues on a regular basis.

This is a set of 2 issues. Several trees are starting to experience some type of disease that looks like a dense white web is taking over limbs.

Many of the trees on this stretch are overhanging utility lines. With hurricane season pending and then snowstorms likely in the winter, many of these trees/limbs may fall down or come off their roots over the power lines and damage utilities.

  • 9881-9899 Gorman Road Laurel, Maryland - North Laurel
The horizontal and vertical curvature of Gorman Road at this intersection make it difficult to follow the road path safely, especially at night. Could extension lines be installed in the intersection to guide drivers along Gorman Road?

The end of the guardrail on WB Gorman Road has been hit and needs to be repaired.
  • 9846-9858 Gorman Road Laurel, Maryland - North Laurel

Would it be possible to install turn lanes or other control at this intersection? Because the volume on WB Gorman Road approaching the intersection is fairly high, including right turns, and there is no turn lane, many of the southbound drivers trying to turn left from the stop cannot go as easily since they do not know that westbound drivers are turning right.

If a turn lane is not justified after a study, could something else be done to help traffic on southbound Gorman move through more smoothly? Sometimes during the PM rush hour, the queue reaches over 10-12 vehicles.

It is even worse when turning drivers don't use signals. The County police need to be brought on to coordinate additional enforcement here and county-wide for turn signal use at intersections and along freeways.
