This has been going on for 1 year since it is difficult for traffic to exit from one signal covering exiting traffic. Heavy school bus traffic and new homes adding to volume.
The entire area was poorly planned as new home construction on Hanover Rd ensued. To reach Rt 1 South most travelers attempt to turn right out of Hanover and then left onto Montgomery in order to use the traffic signal during rush hour. This part of Montgomery Rd is approximately 1/10 mile long and the traffic waiting for the light backs up onto Old Washington Rd such that no one can move anywhere. I have personally requested assistance for changes on Old Washington but have been informed that there is no need. I also attended the Rt 1 Corridor Planning Mtg at the Elkridge Library and (along with neighbors) was merely paid lip service. I shall soon be contacting our Council Rep Liz Walsh for help with these traffic maladies.
Lots of money being spent on Historic Elliott City and Zero on Elkridge, spending money where it should be called a watershed area. All the folks there should move to higher ground. Eventually all these taxes increase are going to cause foreclosures and people moving out of Howard County.
The only way to alleviate this mess during rush is to add a traffic signal at Rt 1 (south) and Old Washington (just past the car wash). Few residents of the Old Washington Road/Hanover Road area use this exit anymore because there are so few opportunities to turn left onto Rt 1 S. If we use Bonnie View Lane to Rt S we encounter the same difficulty attempting to turn onto Rt 1 S. For you traffic control people who do not live in this area, please note that you CANNOT turn onto Rt 1 S from the opposite end of Old Washington. And while you're at it, we need three-way STOP SIGNS on Old Washington at Hanover and Montgomery. This simple and inexpensive addition would not only help to alleviate congestion but would also slow down speeders who use Old Washington as a cut-thru.
Could you please clarify on what intersection you are requesting a traffic signal. You can comment here or contact our office directly by calling 410-313-2430.
