The Town is looking to convert the center lane of Culbreth Rd to a shared through-left lane. The Town will need to consult with NCDOT.

The Town is consulting with NCDOT to include pavement markings at the intersection as part of the Bennett Rd roundabout project.

The light needs to be longer turning onto mt. Carmel from the bridge. There's not enough room for everyone and it forces many to have to keep going up to the fire station by a Southern Village to make a U turn and come back to turn onto Mt. Carmel

The afternoon peak hour plan has 29 seconds of green arrow for the left turn onto Mt. Carmel Church. It will provide less time if there are no more vehicles in the left turn lane (though it usually does max out). The maximum green light for Culbreth is up to 34 seconds, and the maximum green light for Mt. Carmel Church is 19 second. If there is no more traffic on those roads and the green light ends before the maximum, that unused green time goes to the left turn on Mt. Carmel Church Rd. That can be from 41 to 70 seconds of green arrow for the left turn only. But that is dependent on the side street traffic.

Given that traffic using Bennett Rd must now use Mt Carmel Church Rd, that creates more traffic turning right from the southern approach. The left turn onto Mt Carmel Church Rd stops the northbound traffic longer. The Town must also give appropriate time to that movement. Once the roundabout is complete, Bennett Rd will take the additional traffic back.

The Town has not received any approval from NCDOT to alter the lane assignments.
