Description
I was alerted by a citizen of Newberry of the amount of trash on the roadside of County Road 235. I can vouch for that concern as I live on a dirt road that intersects CR 235. The citizen was wondering who would be picking up the trash now that prison labor will no longer be used in the county. I also have a suggestion to post NO LITTERING signs with a listing of the fine amount. I have seen this in Marion County as well as Texas and it works. I look forward to seeing a solution to this rural concern. Thank you.

Greetings on behalf of Alachua County Public Works,
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. Service Request 2516 has been submitted to our staff regarding the litter pick-up. Even though the issue is showing as closed on this website, it is now active in our internal system. Although they were a major and very much appreciated resource in keeping our County right-of-ways litter free, the prison crews were there to assist our other crews with the task of litter control. Now, the responsibility will be solely taken care of by our department with plans on hiring more staff to effectively get the job done. If you have any additional questions, please call our office at 352-374-5245 Monday through Thursday from 7 am to 5:30 pm. Have a great day!
