Short answer: We have not determined when your street will be repaved. But in the next few months, we will be selecting potential streets in Bay Farm for our FY 2020-2021 repaving project.

Long answer, Part 1: The City of Alameda Public Works Department has recently developed an approach for our yearly repaving projects that splits Alameda into 3 sections (West End, East End, and Bay Farm Island). And we'd only focus on one section per year. Starting with Fiscal Year 2019-2020, we will begin with the East End. Bay Farm Island would follow in 2020-2021. We have not selected streets for Bay Farm Island yet. But, we will consider your comments/concerns.

Long answer, Part 2: We typically do not repave a street until at least 2 years after sewer work has been done and not within 6 years prior to sewer work. This 2 year window allows (A) for other utilities to come in and do work and (B) for the ground to settle. And when we pave the street, we put a moratorium on utility work for 5 years to maximize the life of the pavement. At this time, we are unclear whether your street will have sewer work in 2021-2025. But we will look into it when we are selecting streets for the 2020-2021 repaving project.

Ultimately, if your street is a candidate for repaving, and there are no conflicting sewer/utility work, the soonest your street would be repaved is FY 2020-2021. If your street is a candidate, and there are conflicting sewer work/utility work, you may be looking at FY 2026-2027.

Alan, thank you so much for the detailed answer. I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer my plea for info. I understand the process you explained and of course it would be prudent to put off the repaving if there is to be sewer work. I'll be checking in from time to time to see where we are at in the process. I've lived here my entire life on this street and never plan on moving away so the street is a priority for me. As I get older slipping in one of these potholes becomes a grim reality. I can't imagine what the street would look like 9 years from now. Yikes! I remember when it was just a dirt road. I suppose it will look like that again LOL. Again, thank you for explaining.
