Deskripsyon
This is the entrance and exit to FPGB Elementary school. It backs up in the AM and PM during car drop off and pickup. Please install a R turn only arrow and lengthen light. Ideally, this intersection should have a cop during the school hrs as this is a busy intersection for those going straight into carrboro and R onto 54

The Town has reviewed the intersection of Smith Level Rd and the FPG driveway.
During the arrival and dropoff hours, the access to FPG receives up to 35 seconds of green light in the morning and up to 30 in the afternoon. This signal is connected with signal at the NC 54 ramps, and must be synchronously timed. Adding more time to the driveway during the morning rush hour would adversely affect traffic on the mainline (Smith Level Rd), and would also affect the performance of the ramp signals.
Any modification to traffic phasing or turn restrictions must be approved by NCDOT. Any modification to the driveway outbound operation must be done in coordination with NCDOT, Chapel-Hill & Carrboro Public Schools, and the Town of Carrboro (as the signal is physically located in Carrboro Town limits).
As the access is for property owned by Chapel-Hill & Carrboro Public Schools, please contact Chapel-Hill & Carrboro Public Schools to make a request to NCDOT, as the Town of Chapel Hill cannot implement nor enforce turn restriction operations. The Town cannot put a right-turn only arrow as there is only a single lane outbound. Any driveway expansion and traffic operation within the parking lots must also be undertaken by Chapel-Hill & Carrboro Public Schools.
The Town will still review afternoon pick-up times to see if any modification can be made to the signal operation regarding timing and phasing.
Isinara Chapel Hill Traffic/Signals Engineer (Rehistradong User)
The Town of Chapel Hill has added about 10 seconds to the outbound movement in the afternoon. This will allow additional vehicles to leave during the afternoon rush.
The Town of Chapel Hill cannot place a right green arrow, turning restrictions, or officer enforcement at this signal. Any other modification must require coordination with Chapel Hill / Carrboro Public Schools, Town of Carrboro, and NCDOT. Any request for law enforcement must be done by Carrboro Police Department.
