I live on Long Bow Lane in Largo.
I just saw a Pinellas County Public Works
"Air Sweeper" truck come down my street and sweep/vacuum along the edges of my street.
Right now there are enormous piles of tree trunks and tree branches lining both sides of the street, piled up on front of every house. These piles tower over my head as I walk down the street, and I am sure it will be quite some time before they are all removed because of the enormous amount of these throughout the entire county. (which I completely understand and I am not complaining at all about the piles.)
But, it is a complete waste to have a truck come down my street to sweep up a few leaves & dirt with these piles of trees everywhere! A waste of this employees valuable time, as well as a waste of fuel.
I watched as the truck went by and there was absolutely no difference in the road after it passed down the street. (other than the pollution/fumes the truck was spewing)
As soon as they start removing the piles of trees, the road will be filled with debris. Wouldn't it make more sense to send the sweeper truck then?!
Isn't there something else more meaningful this valuable employee could be doing?!

Debris contractors began storm debris collections from the rights-of-ways on Monday, September 18th. As of September 25th Public Works anticipates that the first pass of debris removal in the unincorporated area will be completed in four weeks. A second pass will then be completed and if necessary a third pass. Residents should place their debris in sorted piles, not in garbage bags, at the public right-of-way not stacked against trees, poles, fire hydrants, mailboxes or storm drains for curbside collection. Debris should not be placed in the road, on sidewalks and no further than 10 feet beyond the curb. Debris will be collected and taken to a temporary storage site to ultimately be recycled or disposed of.
You are welcome to visit the Pinellas County website at www.pinellascounty.org to find the debris collection routes map of the areas that we are currently working in. At this time, we are unable to provide a timeframe as to how long we will be in each zone or when we will be adding additional zones. Please check the website for regular updates.
If you live on a private road or in a private community and are unable to bring the debris to the closest public right-of-way, please stay on the line. Residents in these areas are also advised to contact their regular garbage hauler to have it picked up.
