None of the entry doors to the public market are automated for those who are disabled. I am confined to a power chair and cannot open the doors on my own. I have to rely on the kindness of strangers to open doors for me so that I can get into the public market. I called the building management office of the public market on August 28 and was told that installation of automated doors are not on any building maintenance timeline. Apparently, they have no plans to automate the doors even though they have been renovating the building for two years.

Hello and thank you for your comments and patience in the matter. Automatic door openers may be provided when specific code compliance cannot be met due to site constraints. The existing site conditions for minimum accessibility entry doors located east of the Market place complies with minimum code requirements.
1. Please note on December 14th Building inspection field staff has visited the site with the property maintenance personnel to verify minimum CA. Building Code (CBC) Chapter 11B Public/commercial accommodations for compliance.
2. The existing double doors located on the east side (Shellmound St/RR tracks) of the building are primarily designed to meet the accessibility requirements of the CBC 11B. due to proximity of accessible parking, path of travel and access to common areas of the building. The North doors are also accessible due to parking, path of travel but not required. The West doors are exempt.
3. Current site conditions indicate per CA Building Code (CBC) 11B-404.2.4 which requires a minimum of 24inches of a door latch or handle approach, pull side per 48 inches each entry door.
4. Pull forces for each door cannot exceed 5 lbs. Staff indicates the east doors are compliance, the north doors are consistently calibrated due to winds in the area. Building inspection staff advised property management personnel to monitor and adjust as necessary.
5. In this case, automatic actuators are only required when either item 2 or 3 are not in compliance.
In summary, The existing site conditions for minimum accessibility entry doors located east of the Market place complies with minimum code requirements.
