Description
It seems that part of the plan for the Deering Street reconstruction is installing "green infrastructure" within curb extensions. While this is a nice idea, I'm concerned about the decision to take up the space of several parking spots in an area where on-street parking is already very scarce. Does the city plan to compensate for those parking spots elsewhere?

The green infrastructure (GI) is being installed as depicted on all the design documents reviewed and approved by the city involved at that time - planning - historic preservation - engineering/ traffic and public works.
There is a 20 foot wide span between the GI bump out at Avon Street
The street is 34 feet wide curb to curb.
There is parking on both sides.
Assuming an 8 foot parking lane that reduces the street width to 18 feet.
We did not move the curb line.
There is an extra 2 feet when you get to the GI at Avon Street.
The GI was designed so it would not stick out anymore into the roadway than the parked cars.
We put the green infrastructure in those areas of the roadway where there was designated no parking for sight line issues for those vehicles pulling out from one of the side streets and thus not reducing the available parking.
We did everything possible to make this GI installation a showcase for meeting urban street design and improvement.
