The speeding on 9th Avenue N (West of the Pinellas Trail) is out of control. SPPD put a speed monitor up last week and it has not functioned for days. When it did work it did nothing to deter speeders. Many are speeding in excess of 50 and 60+MPH in this 30 MPH residential neighborhood. This two lane road is a race track. More than 80% of the people driving on this road are exceeding the speed limit by at least 20 MPH and others are racing down this road at top speed upwards of 80 MPH from the trail west to Country Club Road. We need enforcement officers writing tickets to deter this reckless driving. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS. The situation is escalating and it is dangerous.

Thank you for your tip on SeeClickFix dated February 22, 2017. Chief Holloway has asked me to respond directly to you regarding the issues of speeding in the area of 7410 9 Av N. The information you provided was forwarded to Community Service Sergeant Mitch Detty to investigate.
Sergeant Detty reported that he assigned Officer Timothy McClintick to check on the issue. Officer McClintick advised that he conducted multiple directed patrols in the area. The patrols were conducted at various times of the day in hopes that they would be more effective in reducing the speeding. The traffic Unit is also aware of the situation and stated that they have worked this area in the past and will continue to monitor this area in the future.
The Police Department, and more specifically the Community Service Unit, will begin more aggressive enforcement and conduct several operations in the area to target the activity. These operations will be conducted during various hours and days.
