Hi everyone, this is Jason Bridges (Public Outreach Manager for the Town). I helped set up SeeClickFix for the Town, for use by the DPW 3 years ago. Through the state's Commonwealth Connect grant we received access to SeeClickFix for 3 years. As the 3 years came up in December 2015, it was decided to not continue with SCF because of the price of the app, lack of staff to properly maintain and oversee the app, and a new work flow system called PeopleGIS was just initiated (and still in the middle of implementing). For these reasons the SCF app contract was not renewed. (More info than you probably wanted to know!!!)
From a public outreach standpoint, I really liked the transparency and access to fix problems around the island that SCF gave to the public. Its my job to find these type of application to further our public digital engagement, so I understand your concerns. Soon we will have a similar option for the public via PeopleGIS that will be easier for DPW staff to maintain (and integrate into their work flow system) and the public to quickly send information to the Town and DPW (clogged sewer drains, potholes, encroachment, trash, etc). Once this new work order system is set I will let everyone know how and where they can report issues via this new system.
In the meantime, to file a report please call the DPW at 508-228-7244 or submit a report online through the website under the Public Works link "Make a Report". Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at jbridges@nantucket-ma.gov
I also just received the below information from SeeClickFix...
"SeeClickFix is a platform that works everywhere, even when the city/town isn't a partner. It enables residents to communicate to each other and work together to resolve issues. SCF users have come together to improve their communities, coordinate volunteering efforts, etc. For this reason, before and after a city is a partner with us, residents can use the platform to report issues and then work together to resolve them, even if the town is electing not to respond via SCF."
My question must have overlapped your answer. Thanks for the info. It's a shame to no longer have this connection to the Town. Hope the new system works in a similar manner. Would it help if more people were aware of this application or the new one?
