Please can someone do something about this? Besides the fireworks being loud. it’s dangerous because they’re shooting them off in front of houses! I don’t want my house catching fire!

I've been doing some research and it's unfortunate that homeowner's insurance / landlords' apt bldg insurance will not cover damages ( fire or otherwise ) if it occurs in a state where certain fireworks are illegal. Here in NJ anything aerial above a certain height is illegal such as bottle rockets, M-80s, cherry bombs, Roman Candles, etc. What is considered legal are the hand-held sparkler type which do not shoot off into the air

It's hard to believe homeowner's insurance won't cover damages that are caused by fireworks set off by someone else. I believe that clause would apply to fireworks set off by the owner or a family member, or a visitor or guest allowed by the owner, and not by a stranger. Check that.
I would call South or West district, whichever you are in, and speak to either the community relations officer or the executive officer and ask for enforcement.

@JSQMKM ... normally all you mentioned should be covered, would cover all property damage caused by fireworks set off by others, as well as whatever property you damaged if you set them off yourself ( either your own residential damage or to a neighbor for example ) The fine print seems to say otherwise though if the state where the damage took place is a state where aerial explosive fireworks are illegal. Maybe it depends on the insurance carrier. I am not a homeowner but my landlord had to pay out of pocket to make repairs to all the windows / screens broken from exploding fireworks too close to our windows here in Bergen / Lafayette. I'm curious now though, to research if damage from bullets is covered considering the illegal nature of that as well

I do agree that the police response to fireworks is generally unacceptable. Our area has been relatively quiet the last 2 - 3 years but before that, forget it -- they started before Memorial Day and every weekend thru the summer. I have photos from July 5 two years ago, the number and size of the remains of fireworks in a parking lot adjacent to my building looked like a battlefield. They were setting them off well past 2 am following an all-day saga.

@JSQMKM ... oh I hear ya' on that !! Citywide, there's been a slight improvement overall, yet still a long way to go to combat this issue. I also have quite a collection of photos / videos to show friends who don't live in JC nor even understand this city's dangerous pastime. I grow tired of the small few residents who seem to want to defend this as "tradition" when it has little to do with celebrating a holiday and more about wanting to mimic actual gunfire, running through the streets shooting as if this really is the wild, wild west or an actual battlefield
