I agree. We have many families that cross the road during a busy pool season BUT also the walking paths that are on the other side of the road. Cars fly by with no care for slowing down

I totally agree that speed bumps are needed in this area. It will make the street safer for kids waiting for the school bus and residents walking to the swimming pool.

A crosswalk and traffic calming measure would be wonderful. The only other crosswalk around is at Snowden and Tamar, so if families want to walk to the pool, they need to go a ways in the opposite direction of the pool in order to cross safely. Plus, people tend to drive fast on Tamar.

I definitely agree that this is needed - people drive way over the speed limit on this section of Tamar, and there’s lots of children in the area who are in danger from it.

Regarding the excessive speeding, please contact the Howard County Police Department's non-emergency number (410-313-2929) to report this issue. The Police Department are the only entity who can enforce the speed limit. Provide them with the time of day, days of the week that you are noticing this. The more information that you are able to provide them the more they are able to enforce. Thank you. We will continue our investigation regarding the crosswalk request.

Any given day several times a day, you can hear and see cars speeding through this section of Tamar Dr. As said above, there are many children and pedestrians walking in the area that can be harmed by these offenders. I believe speed bumps would help with this issue. There are speed bumps on Tamar Dr between Old Montgomery Rd and Saddle Dr. It would be great if those can be added between Old Montgomery Rd and Each Leaf Ct.

I reached out to HoCo police today at the number you provided. Here is the result of that phone exchange.
1. The non-emergency operator was not able to handle this issue so she gave me the number for the local duty officer department.
2. The local duty officer took a message and I got a return call within 2 hours from an officer that referred me to the traffic enforcement section of the police force.
3. After being transferred to that specific office I received a message that said they would not be back in the office until July 5.
4. I left a message with that office outlining your scheduling to send an engineer to do a traffic study and your advising us to report the speeding issue to the HoCo police for enforcement support.

I agree with the above statements about excessive speed. Traffic calming measures, such as speedbumps, would be an effective solution and improve the safety of all residents along Tamar Dr.

A cross walk would be helpful here for residents walking to the pool and the walking path on the other side of the road.

I just spoke with Officer Salato from the traffic enforcement section of the HoCo Police and he informed me that his department does not have the capacity to do a speed study in our neighborhood. He said that their caseload is such that it would be over a year before they could devote attention to this project. He advised us to continue to work with your there in the traffic engineering division to move this request forward.
We would love an update from your office to let us know of your progress on this matter.

Diane- Thanks for passing along my message. I just got a call from Addison over in the Traffic Engineering Divison and he gave me this update.
1. He did a site visit and evaluated road curve, sight lines, road width, Columbia path location, ADA ramp placement among other things in relation to pedestrian crossing safety
2. He looked at the records from previous evaluations of traffic and speed in this area and saw that the data needs to be updated.
3. He will be looking into this project and should have a realistic timeline in place in about two weeks.

A marked crosswalk with bump out on the southbound Tamar Drive near CA pathways is an ideal location for pedestrian and cyclists crossing. Pending on funding, the design and construction may start in FY24, after July 1st, 2023.

Thank you for the work you have been doing behind the scenes to put together a plan for this project.
As you consider the usage of this road I thought it might be important to know its use throughout the summer. Attached is a picture of the area when the pool is in use. This might affect bike lane plans.
