The volunteer event (hosted by HoCo Ecoworks) did happen on Monday to clean-up the wooded areas (preserved conservation areas that run parallel to Route 100). Our small morning group of about 10 volunteers helped pick up trash and debris starting at around Sante Fe Count in the Single Family Homes. I was told that the 2nd afternoon group continued on working towards the Montjoy Elms Apartments. I was informed that plenty of places need attention but due to the lack of employees/staff, areas that need attention are just put in the pile and they will get to it when they can. Thank you for bringing it up as now the issue is fresh in their eyes again and hopefully they can try and either resolve it or will try to get another Volunteer event set up thru HoCo Ecoworks to help resolve the problem.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Much of the trash in the neighborhood was cleaned up during an EcoWorks volunteer event. EcoWorks will try to set up another cleanup event to clean up the remainder of the trash.

We do not have plans at this time to host an additional cleanup. This area was developer planted forest conservation for the bordering neighborhood. The land was then deeded to the County. The developer is not required to remove the tree shelters prior to deeding the land to Howard County as these types of tree shelters are biodegradable. Unfortunately we do not have the manpower to remove all shelters left by developers within forest conservation easements on all land deeded to the County.
