I have sent a message also about the piles of leaves on Centennial Lane several weeks ago. It makes the sidewalks extremely unsafe for children walking to school and residents of the community. Thank for taking care of the issue. We appreciate your work in keeping our sidewalks safe.

Sidewalk maintenance is the responsibility of the abutting property owner. It’s a mass under taking to send letters out to each property owner. Is there a Homeowners Association we could reach out to?

Thank you for your reply. This sidewalk is not in a community, it is on a county roadway that abuts Howard County property. This sidewalk is the main walkway on a very traveled road that services elementary, middle and high schools, along with the many residents of the community. Howard county roadways need attention to reflect the wonderful county that we are.The HOA is not responsible for this cleanup. We all look forward to a safe walkway for our children.

Dear User Janette Fine, I understand your statement, the Code is Written for abutting property owners, even if you abutt the sidewalk from the rear of the property, not the roadway.

Sec. 18.402. ‐ Maintenance of sidewalks, driveways and sod.
(A) It shall be the duty and obligation of the owner of property abutting a public right‐of‐way to maintain the abutting
sidewalk, driveway apron and sod or grass within the public right‐of‐way in such condition as to be safe for public use.
