We are focused in this area more than any other area in the past 4 weeks because of the homicide that occured around the corner from rosewood ave. Just because you don't see a Police cruiser doesn't mean the police are not in your neighborhood.

As a block watch captain on Eastern Street I know that there was a police presence around here before the murder. Police cars regularly patrol our complex and surrounding streets. And I have been active in calling in those reckless bikes. They are a menace and the people in this area were very happy when Sgt Anastasio and others arrested a bunch of the dirt bike riders and confiscated their bikes last year. Looks like another roundup is about to happen.

Eastern Street is a big street. But even so, I started the block watch because everyone complained about issues but no one wanted to take a stand. Our block watch is tight and we look out for each other and also those who are too scared/lazy/ unconcerned to join one themselves. But I truly appreciate your concern. Thank you.

Yeah our blockwatch leader had some bad things done to her car and property before she moved out of town.

Yesterday on Lexington I witnessed 2 dirt bikes and an ATV surrounding a car and basically trying to run it off the road. Of course a car was coming from the opposite direction and they had to stop or hit these guys head on.

Breaking News - The boy that everybody has been seeing riding the blue quad all throughout Fair Haven Heights and Fair Haven , who lives on Lenox st. Just got sentenced to 2 years in prison for riding dirt bikes and quads and threatening the community. Its only the beginning with more to follow him.

@ Connecticut - Fear is what these thugs pray on- remaining anonymous and hiding hoping things get done is just what they want. The more people who come out and stand up for their rights the less these thugs will think about retaliating- Living in fear is no way to live. The more eyewitness you have the better the chances of catching and prosecuting perpetrators. Your line of thinking is exactly why we haven't been able to keep these criminals off the streets- everyone is too afraid to point out the criminal so they just continue to shoot, rob and intimidate. Enough is enough. They can't get everyone. Approaching these individuals dangerous and foolish. Let the police handle that. Never put yourself in harms way!

Fedup call the district manager, maybe you can devise a game plan to catch these people actually driving the dirt bikes. It is not against the law to have dirt bikes in a garage.

can you explain this a bit? are you sure about someone going to jail for more than a week or two?

If you know where dirt bikes, quads and ATVs are garaged, report it to the New Haven Police ATV hotline at (203) 946-6098. Or, call your NHPD district manager. By reporting where these cars ATV and dirt bikes are stored, your district manager can build a case for getting a search warrant and eventually they will be able to confiscate the machines. But, first they need to build a case. They need to gather evidence.

For example, in the Edgewood/Dwight Neighborhood it is Sgt. Steve Torquati at (203) 946-7597. In the Whalley, Edgewood, Beaver Hills (WEB) Neighborhood it is Lt. Makiem Miller at (203) 589-3318 or mmiller@newhavenct.net. They will investigate and can confiscate the vehicles.

If you want IMMEDIATE action, call the non-emergency (dispatch) NHPD phone number at 203-946-6316. Tell the dispatcher that your district manager (use their name) said to call and have some patrols sent to your area. Then ask the responding officer to CALL YOU BACK. This is very important. Otherwise, you call will fall into a black hole. By asking for a call back you are ensuring that the NHPD will take action and then be held accountable to you for what action is taken.

We need enough people to report these illegal machines, call the police, and work with their NHPD district managers. There are 100,000 of us in this city and only 100 or so of these dirt bike and ATV riders who are ruining our quality of life. We all need to raise this issue with our police and city government. With enough pressure, laws will change and policing tactics will adjust.
