Sidewalk, (walking area) is severely damaged on West Rock Ave, in front of tennis courts and park. Hazardous for walkers, joggers, the elderly and playing children.
The damaged sidewalk is across the street from 328 West Rock Ave. It is the part of the sidewalk that is adjacent to the park. It was damaged when a very large tree fell on it during Hurricane Sandy. This area receives a lot of foot traffic from children coming and going from school, and many people visiting the Farmer's Market on Sunday. I hope the city will repair this soon.
Department of Public Works: Please see the attached photos taken today. I am very concerned that you repair this badly damaged (Since October 2012) sidewalk before The Westville Art Walk on May 10, 11, 2013--Also, there is a Farmer's Market that many people attend and walk over the broken sidewalk. This is a danger to the public.
Actually, Public Works came and put a temporary asphalt patch on this, which is much improved from what was there and will suffice for now. Still needs a full sidewalk replacement. Close ticket in the meantime.
I hope these patches are temporary. Also, the patches along this street barely touched on the problem. I still see plenty of cracked and broken sidewalk. If I were in a whelelchair or unsure on my feet this would be a dangerous sidewalk still. Plus, nothing has been done about the giant stump that is halfway in the street. It is sad that certain areas of town like west rock ave, Mckinley, Orange street can get very nicely done sidewalks, yet a street like Dayton cannot.
Thank you Department of Public Works. I think this ticket should remain open until the sidewalk is replaced with concrete. The whole sidewalk needs replacing from Whalley Avenue to Yale Avenue. This area of sidewalk is busy year round with pedesterain traffic from school children, people visiting the farm market and cafe, people visiting the Tennis Courts at Edgewood Park, and people out for a walk in a busy neighborhood. I think this ticket should remain open until it is fixed not only patched. Thank you.
Fair enough. Public Works, can you please confirm that this location is on the list for a full-on sidewalk replacement along this stretch or does this need to also be submitted via our Alderman? Thank you.
We assigned this West Rock sidewalk location (SCF #371758) to "permanent repair..." and at that time you mentioned Ward 25 alder Adam Marchand was submitting it too. We'll leave it "acknowledged and assigned" Thanks.
