Part of the upcoming permit reform the City of Burlington will be "eliminating unnecessary permits" based on a recent Front Porch Forum posting by the Interim Chief Innovation Officer.

The Permit Reform Advisory Committee Meeting heard from City staff in June about this issue. The Department of Public Works proposed a list of permits that were being considered for elimination. The list is not finalized so there will likely be some changes before any policy or ordinance changes. The initial list included the following:
BUILDING PERMITS:
Siding, Utility/Garden Sheds, Green Houses, Roof Covers, non-egress windows, flooring,
play-ground equipment, Kitchen remodel with no structural work.
ELECTRICAL PERMITS:
Device Replacement, Ballast Changes, Direct Equipment Replacement (Motors, controllers, etc.)
Lamp/Bulb Replacement, Breaker Replacement
PLUMBING/MECHANICAL PERMITS:
Fixture Replacement
The next Permit Reform Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for noon on September 12, 2018. The meetings usually held in City Hall in conference room 12. Watch for updates on the city web site calendar of events:

You are encouraged to attend to tell the citizen panel what your thoughts are on permit reform and the elimination of some permits.
