Deskripsyon

The intersection at Front and Spadina is a constant traffic jam with street car tracks being ripped up every couple of years and now, there's construction of a new condo building on the north west corner. However, I've always been annoyed by the no right turn on a red when driving east on Front wanting to turn south onto Spadina for access to the Gardiner. The light for eastbound traffic is only green for 17 seconds which is never enough, especially when pedestrians disobey the "cross on the other side of the street" sign.
When there is an advanced green arrow for northbound Spadina traffic to turn west onto Front, why can't we have a green arrow to allow more cars to turn right onto Spadina southbound at the same time? I try to avoid this intersection whenever possible, but the access to the Gardiner west of the Ex is always also a total mess. Please help!

The 'no right turn on red' is legitimate, because there are two lanes of traffic turning left from westbound Front to southbound Spadina on the advanced green. The eastbound traffic on Front needs to hold to prevent two cars trying to turn into the same space.

I agree, the westbound advance needs the two lanes. But when it's a red light for Front street east and west, and there is no traffic southbound on Spadina, I should be able to turn right. When Toyota was on the northwest corner, there was a clear view of the southbound traffic. Now, with the construction walkway, it's a little more difficult to nose ahead to make sure there are no southbound cars. Anyway, 17 seconds is not enough time to clear the back-up of traffic on eastbound Front. Should be a minimum of 30 sec.!

There has been no response on this issue in 151 days. Traffic continues to be a mess at the Spadina-Front intersection. When northbound Spadina gets a green left turn arrow onto Front, at the same time, Front street eastbound should get a green right turn arrow to allow more cars to turn southbound onto Spadina. 17 seconds is not enough time for people turning right with the current traffic light timing!!!

Still no response on this. Just put a sign below the "no right turn on red" and say "except on green arrow" and add a green arrow when cars turning west onto Front have their advanced green. This is not complicated. Why does the city not wish to improve traffic flow at this busy intersection????

Nothing has changed. The intersection becomes worse all the time. Nearly a year since I submitted this suggestion. A simple green arrow on red would help a great deal but the goal in this city must be to see how congested they can possibly make our roads. Way to go Toronto!

The city will never look at this, it's useless continuing to send these comments. Anyone that has to use the Spadina/Front intersection in the morning knows what I am talking about. A simple "right turn on green arrow permitted" would alleviate a great deal of traffic congestion.

Still no green arrow to allow right turn on red light. It's been three and a half years and I'm now retired so I don't have to sit frustrated at this intersection anymore. Someone else will have to take up the torch....

Well, it's getting close to 4 years that I posted this and obviously no one in the city traffic department reads these comments. All I suggested was to put a green arrow during a red light so that cars turning south off Front onto Spadina can take advantage of the period that there is an advanced green for Spadina north turning west onto Front.
Maybe I'll call 311 and see if anything can be done.

So, it's been more than 6 years and still no one has had the intelligence to add a green arrow for a legal right turn on red when turning south onto Spadina from Front St. eastbound. When there is an advanced green for Spadina northbound to turn left (west) onto Front street, they should have at the same time a green arrow on the red so that traffic can turn south off of Front to head toward the Gardiner. Not sure why there is refusal on this suggestion. It's been 2221 days outstanding!

More than 8 years since I first suggested a change at this intersection. I guess we will never see a green arrow on the red light as I have noted above each year. Wish someone from the city would reply why this cannot be done and I can close the issue. Its been 3211 days!
