We work closely with various City departments and local social service providers to address issues faced by our homeless population, and we also work with neighborhood associations to address the concerns they have, as well. Our Police Department has a Street Outreach Team that actively canvasses areas where the activities of the homeless are noticed, and they will continue doing so to ensure the safety of all citizens. Please immediately report any criminal activity or safety concerns to the SPPD directly by calling 727-893-7780 if not an emergency, or 911 if an emergency. Thank you.

Thank you for forwarding the report to the OVSHS, but the issue the OP was raising is the fact that the building is not being adequately maintained by the property owner. The owner should be fined or contacted to address the issue. This is a matter for the police or Codes dept, isn't it?

OVSHS works with Codes, SPPD and Sanitation to resolve situations such as this. They will begin by sending a Street Outreach Team (SPPD) to engage any individuals at the property and remove them as needed. The location can then be investigated for Codes issues and be secured if needed.

Called the police on June 14 to report activity of a mattress on the porch and people sleeping on it....nothing done! Called again today on June 21, a week later due to more people about to camp out on the front porch at night of this abandoned bldg. The LANDLORD should be fined and ashamed of themselves for not caring about the property they purchased and the neighbors around them. We get it...they are wealthy enough to buy it, but don't have any money to take care of it and clean it up...makes sense. The city should be ashamed for doing nothing about this and telling us they would and just pushing it aside again. This place needs to be cleaned up, the grounds are a mess with trash everywhere, have sanitation come pick up the mattress and then board this place up permanently until they bulldoze it for the condos being built here. Do something! Please, if you care about the residents on this street. It is unacceptable. There is another property on the corner of 3rd Ave S and 8th Street (coming soon for 6 months now...Tuxedo Luxury Townhomes), where this abandoned house and front porch has also been taken over by the homeless. Nice! Guess 3rd Ave S is homelessville now with DayStar on the street, too. Sad.
