As long as no cars are to drive up East Rock, the litter is negligible. But wherever cars are allowed -- such as Farnam Drive and English Drive (of course elsewhere) that lead to the East Rock parking lot, people feel entitled to dump liquor bottles, fast food trash, mattresses and other things that could just as easily have been taken care of properly. Hence, to protect what is a sacred place dedicated to Americans who have died in four of our wars, I urge the city to restrict East Rock Park to pedestrian traffic only and to allow only shuttle vehicles to drive back and forth from the parking lot to the summit at regular intervals for those who are unable or unwilling to walk or bike to the top. Therefore, I leave this issue fully open and unresolved.
The Parks Department is trying to better manage SCF issues and are closing old issues. While we know illegal dumping and litter continue to be a concern, these specific issues should have been addressed. Please continue to report new locations with cross streets or paths or other visual cues to help us address more quickly.
