Unless suppliers begin airlifting products into the store (and there would be complaints about that, I'm sure), we sometimes have to deal with the iconvenience of delivery trucks. Certainly am glad to have a store like Nicas in the neighborhood, though
ken, there's no argument that they have great stuff, and that it's a nice upscale market. (i use them as infrequently as possible because i've heard such awful things about the way they treat their employees. i know two great neighborhood kids - who don't know each other - who've worked there). that said - neither of those things makes a difference when you have to blindly inch into traffic onto orange street from bishop street. that is extremely dangerous and only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.
Nica's did have a plan to circumvent this problem, I believe it was approved and then a neighbor appealed it and now everyone is STUCK with this problem. They also have certain trucks park in the driveway, but this one is too large. It would be good to have a solution, and strive for it, any solutions?
I waited in gridlock for an age yesterday while Nica's delivery vehicles blocked the street. The traffic accumulated, tempers frayed and it must have passed through many a driver's mind that road rage might well be the outcome. No one doubts that downsizing (and consequent reduction in delivery trucks) need not impair quality but would certainly improve traffic flow and community temper, not to mention goodwill.. Will Nicas ever learn how to serve the interests of the community?
I can't address employee issues, but there seems to be an extremely low turnover and great camaradarie at Nicas, if that means anything. I empathize with those who make deliveries in urban areas, though. Perhaps involving the Alder if it's such a concern.
Nica's = nuisance. And that's been true for a long time--can the City please finally address complaints that have been made for WAY TOO LONG? What is the justification for omission?!
No, honored Guest! THis simply isn't true. If Nica's knew "the right people so everyone looks the other way " they wouldn't be losing most of their lawsuit attempts to gain variances to facesave their violations. They are losing left right and center thanks to some rightminded citizens who are prepared to challenge them in court.
A solution for safety for the neighborhood would be to install stop signs, Obviously if sight is impaired not only from delivery trucks but buses, city vechicles like firetrucks, . Considering the amount of bicyclists, pedestrians, joggers, etc..., this IS a solution. There has been request from the neighborhood , petitiions to install 2 additional stop signs. I think it would be negligent to NOT install them. It would enhance the safety for all people. There are 4 way stop signs on less traveled streets like foster and lawrence, and many other cross streets . WHY does the CITY CONTINUE to do NOTHING?
But, Susan, Foster & Lawrence do not have problems with massive delivery trucks! If you increased STOP signs wouldn't there be an even worse problems with huge delivery trucks causing a major gridlock on Orange & adjacent roads (where, currently, Nica trucks are known to wait & idle) -- Yesterday 3 large delivery trucks were trying to deliver at Nicas and it was absolute chaos!
The Parking Division has addressed this issue. If this continues to be a problem, you may re-open or report as a new issue in the Parking Violation/Abandoned Auto category. Thank you.
