Lane markings do not have anything to do with the fact that the city speed limit is 30 miles per hour! A cop with a radar gun on New Scotland might help remind the speeders. I was passed by two cars in a one block area on Tuesday am at 8:25 and noted my speed was 30!

I echo the previous comments. Lane marking as well as police enforcement of traffic laws are both needed on this section if New Scotland Ave.

New Scotland Avenue west of Manning Boulevard for westbound traffic is a one lane road. The area adjacent to the curb is available for parking after 7PM.

what about eastbound traffic - isn't New Scotland one lane in both directions. How about a little support on enforcing the speed limit?

Why would there be pedestrian issues in that area? There are no crosswalks in that stretch so pedestrians should be on the sidewalk. I somehow manage to run there almost daily with no problems.

I run and walk there, too, J--cars still go way too fast and a median or chicanes would go a long way to generally calm traffic and make for a safer environment for all.

What data do you have that indicates the area is not safe currently? I seem to see far too many people eager to slow the flow of traffic, which for a city should be a primary CTQ, to make a safe area supposedly safer when in reality it doesn't happen.

I haven't researched this in depth enough to provide you with concrete figures, J, but I would encourage the city to get traffic and accident counts from CDTC and the APD which could potentially be warrants for traffic calming measures.

As a resident of the neighborhood, I have lost count of the times I have either been almost hit as a driver while turning into my street because people interpret this as a two lane road.

This section of New Scotland Ave is poorly designed and, as a result, people think it's two lanes and subsequently speed and/or tailgate. Improving the design will improve the safety for cars and pedestrians.

Thank you for your comment. New Scotland Avenue westbound from Manning Boulevard is a one lane roadway. This section of road does allow for parked vehicles during the evening and nighttime hours. In the opposite direction going toward Manning Boulevard, the road is marked for two lanes.

Whether it's a pedestrian area or not , has marked crosswalks or not , lane markings or not the speed limit on City of Albany streets is 30 miles per hour. I think we would like this stretch of city street to be considered for enforcement of the driving laws.

Could signs please be posted that it is a one lane road. I have been passed many times on this road. Just the other day a van passed me over the center lane going a good 45 miles an hour.

Posting signage here is a excellent idea.

The speeding along this segment of road is getting out of hand. The past few weeks I've had near misses with people that had to be going 45 mph. Cars parked in the east bound outside lane on the curve at Euclid cause a lot of near misses too.

My issue with this area is the people who see too late that the lane turning right onto Manning is Right Turn Only and try to dive back in the straight lane or try to get in front of the cars in the straight lane at the light.
There should be a RIGHT TURN ONLY sign right when it goes to two lanes.

How about a Sharrow lane for bicyclists on the right hand side of the road - maybe that would visually remind drivers that it's one lane? Why are we still discussing this and the traffic enforcement division of the police is not addressing the speeding issue? Do we need a fatality to start the process?

What evidence is there that the speeding is a problem? You put far too much faith that the assigned speed limit is the proper limit for the road itself. If the speed limit was arbitrarily put at 5 mph and people were driving 20 would you see that as a problem?

Drivers continue to treat New Scotland between Manning and Lenox as a two lane speedway. Clear signage, pavement markings and traffic enforcement are sorely needed.

This was reported TWO YEARS ago and there has been no change. What a shame.

How many accidents have there been in those 2 years? None?

Sounds like everyone here has a solution in search of a problem. No accidents, no problem.

There is absolutely a problem--I live it everyday. And there was an accident at the top of Euclid and New Scotland recently. Just because you don't think there's an issue, J, doesn't make everyone else wrong.

According to DOT, the last time any traffic counts were done in the vicinity of Buckingham Dr to S Manning Blvd was 1997 and 14,000 cars per day traveled that section of road. I would think a lot has changed in 19 years.

Any updates on this? SIX YEARS later and it’s still a problem.

There has not been a resolution to this issue. Please stripe the road accordingly. Paint in the parking spots or a wide shoulder, do not simply ignore an issue of cars passing in a lane that doesn’t exist.
