The Wilbur Cross High School student council election results must be reinstated, and the school system should reassign the principal to a job for which she is better suited.
This (the nulling of election results) is completely unacceptable. You know the kids have something right, when the hand of dictatorship comes slamming down.
Dr. Mayo and Mayor DeStefano: You shouldn't have asked for school reform if you didn't really want it.
I hope that the students and principal can meet before the end of the year to discuss the process and figure out a compromise solution. From the Independent article, it appears that there is a strong tradition of student leadership at Cross, and I am concerned that it is being quashed by the destruction of the Political Action committee and the cancelling of the election results. I support student activism at Cross, and hope the Principal will too.
Youth voice is critical, both in school and in the community.
More discussion is required between youth and the school leadership.
I am hopeful that a healthy resolution is in process as I send my comment.
UPDATE Cross H.S. student council elections: students advise us to call the Mayor DeStefano (203-946-8200), Ms Moore (203-497-7400) & Dr Mayo (203-946-8888) to express concern.
While these issues still abide, they are complex & need to be resolved at Board of Education and school levels. Thanks to all who have participated in this discussion! We need to keep our expectations of publicly funded schools very high!
