The intersection of Idlewood Ave & S. Blvd desperately needs a left turn signal. Whether you are heading East or West on Idlewood, the traffic flow comes from 195 in both directions. 10-15 cars will breeze through a green light while those who are yielding and waiting to turn left can miss multiple light cycles. This is dangerous because frustrated drivers often turn left on red and there is a risk that the other cars heading east/west may run the red light as well. The congestion in this area could be alleviated with a left turn signal at the intersection.

Since northbound blvd is shutdown for construction the city should alter that traffic light to give the Idlewood traffic more time to turn since nobody is going to be headed north on the cycle. It really is a silly waste of time right now because the light gives 30 seconds of exclusive time to the northbound lanes yet nobody is even able to travel in that direction.Meanwhile the detours have put extra traffic load onto Idlewood from both the east and west directions thus making this situation even worse! If the city isn't going to bother retiming the light during construction then they should dispatch a police officer to the location to manually direct rush hour traffic. With so much traffic racing to beat the light it is only a matter of time before a child is run over while trying to get to the park or their elementary school.

Construction is schedule on Boulevard for the nest two weeks that is causing traffic conjunction and delay. Once construction is completed traffic flow will return to normal.

Construction definitely has a damper on traffic flow. However, once that is done you will still have issues. Before the construction, there have been numerous accidents and numerous close calls from people running red lights to turn left onto blvd. Unfortunately I disagree that traffic will return to "normal flow" when construction goes away.

My husband and I have lived on this block of the Boulevard for six years and use this intersection daily. We cross the Boulevard to access 195. While the construction and detours on Boulevard have caused more traffic, it does not directly effect the need for a left turn signal for those heading West/East on Idlewood Avenue. I strongly disagree that once this construction is over that traffic will return to normal. The fact of the matter is that those who yielding for a left turn a rarely given the opportunity to ever turn left because the exit ramp of 195 (in both directions) lead directly to this light. I understand that this is a highly trafficked area and I believe that every little thing can help to make traffic less frustrating.

I've been turning left onto Boulevard at this intersection for the past nine years. We've needed a green arrow this entire time. Having construction has only heightened the already existing problem. During rush hour I have sat through as many as three light cycles to turn left without moving. I run the red light in order to get through as does everyone else.

We need a green arrow now and after the construction is complete.

Agreed. I run this red light all the time because it's the only way to make it through the light cycle. I've watched Richmond Police run it too for non-emergencies. A lot of times if you want to make a left turn from Idlewood onto Boulevard the only safe way to make that turn is to run the red light.

This has been a problem for so long when going east - I now go straight and turn on to Robinson to avoid the short light, longer way around but safer. Of course that won't help those trying to get to that block of Boulevard. Certainly a problem intersection.

The conjunction at Idlewood and Boulevard is caused by construction repairing underground utilities. Construction is scheduled to be completed by March 31. When construction is completed traffic flow will return to normal without delay.

"Returning to normal" is still a delay. Survey it and see for yourself. It is and had always been a cluster. Regardless of the utility work.
