Description
There is a large increase in the number of residents of The Chase and Farside communities who walk across Homewood Road to get from one community to the other.
Crossing Homewood Road on foot at this location is especially dangerous, due to the hazard posed by vehicles traveling downhill (heading Southeast). As such vehicles drive down Homewood Road, they have a very limited advance sightline to the pedestrians (often including young children) crossing the road ahead of them, and similarly pedestrians have a limited sightline to vehicles approaching from the Northeast, often at speeds of 50 MPH or more.
We propose that the county (1) paint a crosswalk across Homewood Road at this intersection to indicate the proper pedestrian crossing location for residents of The Chase and Farside communities, and (2) post signs along Homewood Road an appropriate distance from this crosswalk to advise approaching vehicles of the presence of a crosswalk at this location.
Taking these simple and inexpensive actions may well serve to provide an additional measure of safety to both drivers and pedestrians at this location.

The posted speed limit is 30 mph and cars often travel 50 and EVEN 60 mph passed this intersection making it extremely unsafe for pedestrians( walkers and joggers) who frequently cross over Homewood Rd between The Chase and Farside communities.
Painting a crosswalk should be done by the county to prevent possible future pedestrian deaths and accidents, Car accidents and to increase the probability of more drivers to obey and follow the speed limit

I totally agree with this issue. Cars are usually traveling at speeds that far exceed the posted limit in both directions as they pass the 2 neighborhoods- Chase and Farside. Gosh forbid, if you are trying to walk across Homewood Road.

Please add my name to those who agree with addition of crosswalk markings on Homewood road to link Farside and Chase subdivisions.

At this time, there is no existing sidewalk network or ADA receiving ramps along Farside Road, Masters Run, or along Homewood Road, and crossing Homewood Road (a major collector posted at 40 MPH) at this location is not encouraged. It should also be noted that the intersection is on both a horizontal and vertical curve with limited intersection and stopping sight distance. The Bureau of Engineering may be contacted at (410) 313-2414 for information regarding Pedestrian Plan Projects and Sidewalk Retrofit Projects.
While speeding is an enforcement issue, and marked crosswalks are not implemented for speed control, residents are encouraged to contact the Howard County Police at their non-emergency number, (410)313-2929 for enforcement and/or request for addition of this location to their deployment rotation of a radar speed display sign.

We have already had to make major repairs a few times to our development entrance fixtures due to fairly major auto accidents
I fully support this request which will go a long way in protecting people and property

While I agree that cars on the Homewood road travel at an excessive speed, I am not sure if a crosswalk painting will make the intersection more safe for crossing. I rather support more frequent monitoring by police for speeding cars. Perhaps, a warning sign that the location is monitored for speeding cars would be appropriate
Also, County should consider placing left only lanes in both directions a they are available in other sections of the Homewood road.
