RAH - please get your facts straight and read the article provided by Elli21486. The mandate to sound horns at railroad crossings is FEDERALLY mandated, and has nothing to do with local police.

There would NOT have been any articles IFF I did not post blame on Police Chief, who no doubt saw fire in his Irish eyes. Had to get to the Truth as noise bothered me as trains go by Projects, conveniently. Done this before, btw. As my birthday approaches doubt I will have any more opportunities. Time to move on to unknown.

Still blowing horns as loud and long as before

Rosie - Federal regulations mandate that the conductors sound the horns until the city is able to make the necessary upgrades to crossings; Chelsea lost its quiet zone status because the work hadn't been done. I believe there is information on the city website that says this work is expected to be completed by next fall, at which point the city can reapply for quiet zone status. Until it's been granted we're all going to have to try to be patient.

How long is it going to take the city to make the “necessary upgrades.” They have had years to get this done. I don’t see any work being done on the crossings that were mentioned. But I do hear the horns all day and all night ! And it’s not like they blow the horn once or twice when approaching a crossing. They constantly blast the horn through all 5 crossings. If the people in charge of getting this work done had to listen to those horns every day and every night from 4 in the morning until midnight I’m sure the work would be completed a lot faster. Why is it taking so long to complete this project.
