Descripción

Should cottonwood trees be illegal? Every year, this entire street has to deal with thick cotton-y seeds floating through the air, accumulating on the ground, and causing significant allergies! I don’t enjoy sneezing, especially when people think I have corona! #BanCottonwoodTrees

Reading more about this online, many cities have banned cottonwood trees. They clog drains and air conditioners. They’re unsightly and drop branches as well. It also creates risks for the nearby sidewalk due to the shallow root system.

Thank you for your comments. The city does not plant cottonwood trees and they are not on our approved street tree list of species to plant in the right-of-ways. They do grow naturally in natural areas and are native in the United States.
