Hello-
I'm writing to request an enhancement of the crosswalk at High and Fairview. The crosswalk is used often by families and children, especially those on strollers, bikes and scooters, but traffic is generally pretty fast along High street at this intersection. We see kids cross High street at the Fairview intersection, often in route to Edison Elementary, and feel the safety of this intersection could be improved. Would it be possible to install a cross walk sign (the bright yellow/green reflective signs that are placed in the middle of the crosswalk) or the blinking cross walk lights that could be activated from either side of the High street at this intersection? I think these small enhancements would go a long way to making this intersection safer for kids and families. Please let me know if there is anything else I can/should do to affect this enhancement.

Thank you for submitting your request to the City of Alameda Public Works Department. We are currently developing a new process for handling traffic calming requests. Each request will be scored based on various quantitative and qualitative traffic related criteria. The requests with the highest scores will then be added to a list (to be reviewed for the next 1-2 fiscal years). Requests that are not selected will remain in the pool for consideration at a later time. We will add your request to the pool so that it may go through the selection process.
Also, since you are interested in bicycle and pedestrian safety issues, please note that the City will be updating its Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans starting in mid-2019. If you’d like to receive notices about opportunities to provide input on these updates, please send your email address to transportation@alamedaca.gov.
In the meantime, we will reassign this case to APD so that they may enforce the area.
