Description
There is at least one gopher tortoise on the former Walter Farley tract on Gulf Drive that's being developed by Caithness Construction. A check with FWC found that the owner of the lot received a gopher tortoise relocation permit (Permit #GTT-16-00301) in 2016 after finding burrows but never followed through with the tortoises' removal. That puts the current construction activity in violation of Florida regulations; a complaint has been filed with FWC law enforcement but given Venice City's oversight over land clearing, I'd like to ask the city to look into the matter as well.

Reporter: This is not under the jurisdiction of the City of Venice. It falls under FWC. Engineering is responsible for the clearing permits but not anything to do with Gopher Turtles. You did the right thing by advising FWC and we will let them handle the matter.
Thank you
