illegal large and dangerous structure. pretty sure not up to code lol ... if it’s cool though that’s fine i’ll just start building random huts too

There are mattresses, tires, used needles, and human waste which they dump into the Lake. Three also use saws to cut down the trees and bushes. So sad for the wildlife and people that want to use the Park.

I've reported a big pile of trash that's on this shore but closer to the bandstand at least 5 times but as of a couple of days ago nothing had been done. I did see today that the tents in the area of grass above the lake path to the north of the bandstand are gone.

I did go to the meeting and was very impressed by Joe DeVries and his firm opposition to camping at the lake in response to the homeless advocates who were there. I hadn’t realized how complicated the issue is or how many agencies are involved in dealing with encampments. I know camps have been dismantled in many areas but don’t know why that part of the shoreline hasn’t been touched.

did Joe DeVries mention anything specific about the encampment on the shoreline? I tried emailing him but they won't reply. It's almost like they don't see it, but it's the biggest one.

Jay, the meeting was so packed that I didn't get to ask a question. But I agree that it seems as if that trash pile, not the little shed but the actual pile of garbage closer to the bandstand beach, is invisible to the city. My husband and I have a truck and we've thought of going there with heavy shoes and gloves and filling trash bags and the truck with all that garbage. Interested in a civic field trip like that?

yes, I would be interested. But is someone still living down there? I cannot tell anymore, but if there's someone there I think we are not legally allowed to collect anything.

Actually, I have talked with the guy who lives in the tent next to the garbage heap. He set up his tent after that pile of rubbish happened. He would love to see it cleaned up, a least that's what he said when we spoke. He seems to be a very nice, gentle guy with some delusions about people living under the ground there, but quite friendly.

OK, so the person there now is not affiliated with all the trash/ furniture that's been there for a year? If we could get that verified then I suppose anyone could clear? Sorry, I'm not sure about the rules and regulations, if there are any--

There are rules and I know you have to be very careful not to throw things away that someone says they own/want. I'm quite sure that pile of stuff is just garbage, and there's a part of me that just thinks, "yeah, go ahead and fine me for cleaning this mess up...." But it's a dirty job, especially with everything soaked after all this rain, and I"m leaving town soon, so realistically I'm not going to get to it. But if it's still there in April when I'm back it might be worth doing.

Good news! The big trash pile has been removed. Thank you to whoever did it. The tent that was erected next to it is gone, but a bunch of that person's exterior items are still there. Also, the band stand is empty of tents and camps and the grassy area to the north of the bandstand along the shore is empty of tents. So that's progress!
