Another new tent at waters edge. This time they constructed a barrier to prevent water from the Lake coming into the tent. Human waste and tons of smelly debris that has flies and maggots.

This area use to be covered in trees until the vagrants burnt and cropped them down. How much of the Lake is going to be allowed to be destroyed.

Junk at waters edge has been there for over a year. This is leftover from the encampment that was there. The City cleaned some of it up but left this garbage. Why?

This area use to be lush and covered with trees. So sad.

New Homeless Camp at location that I have been complaining about for a year. City just sent in Hazmat to clean up the piles of human waste and removed a burnt tree on Friday. Now there is a new tenant to add to the destruction. This part of the Lake was beautiful. Let them destroy the few remaining trees in this area. Pathetic!

Very large homeless encampments including furniture and walls. Looks like the same group that cut and burnt the trees a 100 yards up the trail and requires hazmat to clean up. Please don’t let them destroy another part of the Lake. This is ridiculous. Already starting a large pile of human waste.

City never cleared this site when the last homeless encampment left on their own. Now there are more new people and the mess is larger. You can smell the human feces piles from the cement path and they continually dump garbage into the Lake. I was awakened this morning to the sound of a fight, yelling and shoving over turf. They have removed more plants and trees. Thank you City of Oakland for turning the view and the piece and quiet I work so hard for into a blighted zone.

Abandoned homeless camp. When it rains the debris is going into the Lake as well as the large piles of human feces they left behind.

This post is to put the City of Oakland on notice that citizens in and around Lake Merritt are in danger of diseases including but not limited to Hepatitis and HIV, in danger of having their homes burned down and potentially losing their lives in fires and of being victims of assault, battery, rape, theft, etc.

People camping in the Park don’t use bathrooms and their waste is a hazard. There are used needles everywhere that children may accidentally step on, exposing them to diseases. The transients have set numerous fires around the Lake, cut down trees and poisoned wildlife. What if one of these fires spread to a neighboring building like what happened yesterday in East Oakland?

On Sunday a transient was urinating by the Lake and an elderly man told him to stop. His wife joined in and as the transient started to approach the man my friend grabbed the elderly man and walked him out of the area. My friend put his life in danger my heading off this confrontation. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN and if my friend had been hurt trying to be a good person I would have held the City responsible.

The City posted flyers again that on April 4th encampments will be removed from the Lake. The last time this was done only a few sites were cleared and they came right back.

City of Oakland - Do it right this time. Clear ALL encampments and keep them OUT permanently. You owe it to the tax paying citizens of Oakland to put their safety first for once.

In the last week there have been two fires at this location. Right now a person in the encampment just cut down a tree that was at least 12-15 feet tall with a beautiful wide canopy. It is one thing to camp by the lake but it is another thing to destroy the park and create a FIRE danger to the community.

Dangerous illegal structures being built with more people moving into the area. If the box spring that they are using for a roof falls it could hurt or kill someone.

They are destroying the vegetation including expensive trees that birds use for nesting this time of year by using a saw to cut the trees.

Yesterday they were dumbing more waste into the Lake including needles and human feces.

It is dangerous to walk on the path near this location as sometime their garage reaches the sidewalk and since they are hiding in the bushes most people don’t know that they are there. They can attack unsuspecting Lake visitors. I would rather have them in an open area were you can see what they are up to.
