Thanks for adding in, TJ -- I just saw the official response to your post that the city is working on larger signage.

TO THE CITY: until signage is fixed, that lane needs to be completely disabled. This is a fatal accident waiting to happen.

That bikes-only left turn lane isn’t new, it’s been there since the Christie Ave pathway was completed in 2015.

The Shellmound paving project added additional green paint and bike stencils to that turn lane this year in an attempt to make it even more obvious that it is bikes-only, but it indeed still needs some work (though north & south-bound drivers mistakenly turning the wrong way from Shellmound to Christie is a long-standing problem preceeding the construction of the Christie pathway).

I think larger signage would help, as would a dashed yellow center line running north-south through the intersection, to help reinforce the left turn van.

“left turn ban” not “van”

Well, something has changed, because I've never seen auto drivers make that mistake before the repaving (and I've gone through that intersection hundreds of times). Something about the new lines on the ground make it kind of look like autos can use that lane, in a way that it wasn't apparent before.

The left turn problem here is definitely long-standing and not specific to the recent striping. There are several years old SeeCliciFix reports about it, even the Google Maps street view images of the intersection shows a driver turning the wrong way onto Christie.
