Description
This park is COVERED IN TRASH the homeless have build an insane camp there. covered in tents and trash. the bathrooms are left unlocked and are the most disgusting things ive ever seen in my life. there is broken glass and trash covering the entire park. WHY are the homeless allowed to have the whole entire park as a camp? this is unacceptable. I live right next door to this park and break ins happen everyday. I see drug deals happen every night. Im scared to even leave my home. This need to be cleaned up NOW. The park is a dumping ground of drugs and trash. Break ins happen every single day due to these people living here. Unacceptable

New camp is opening – or maybe re-opening! – at 11th & Castro on the CalTrans property dividing 980 from Castro. This site exists because the City and CalTrans cannot coordinate their cleanup times of this area, and CalTrans won't fix the holes in the fencing there, thus allowing unimpeded access to the property where fires are common, trash and filth accumulate, and, de facto, a sanctioned encampment is permitted.
Better coordination between agencies is required for this heavily-trafficked area to keep it from becoming a dumpsite.

I've had some great responses from them as well, but fixing the holes in the fencing requires another level of decisionmaking than the maintenance folks assigned to this area can provide. It may be that the Old Oakland Neighborhood Association will have to petition our Councilmember to intercede on our behalf and get a fix for the problem of encampments on medians, etc.
Here at the hub of the "Strongest Regional Economy in the World," we are living proof that "economy" is a misunderstood and or ironic term: the regional agencies patting each other on the back with such a boast need to be better managed and more interested in improving the functionality of the Bay Area, lest the dryrot of enforced poverty and social neglect worsens to the point where the whole house of cards, discards and castoffs comes crashing down around us!
