Description

I am writing to see if it were possible to make 26th Ave N. closed to through traffic only, or to place small poles up so that traffic cannot get through on 26th Ave N.
Problem: beginning at 49th street to York Street, this is a SMALL one way street (there is even a caution sign indicating the street narrows excessively). This is a very popular street for dog walkers and children to play on/bike on because of the open grassy area on each side of the street. It being a tucked away street also makes it favorable. However, there is SO MUCH traffic on this one little road. Every SINGLE time our family is on that road, there are multiple cars that come through. With it being a one-way, we have to get over on the grass with our child's tricycle and dogs, and stroller to allow the cars to pass. It narrows so much that only a single car alone can pass through. All of the parents have to scramble to try to get their kids up on the grass, or risk being within arms reach away from a passing car. It's VERY dangerous. Once that car passes there is ANOTHER car waiting to pass through coming from the other direction. 28th Ave N, and 25th Ave. N. are so close by, I don't know why cars ALWAYS choose to come down this one way and inconvenience pedestrians. We cannot win! I see cars fly through here all the time (despite speed bumps) and like I said, many children are frequently riding bikes through here. There are about 3 houses that lie through this street, but it would be possible for them to get to their houses from filtering in through 50th St. N. or 51st. N. This is a safety issue. There's too much traffic on this one way street, and not enough room for pedestrians and bike riders to get through. I have included a picture of a family in front of us walking their dog. My husband is following with our baby in a wagon and pug. Everyone in the pic had to shuffle over to the grass because of one car that couldn't use a different street. This shouldn't be a through street. Please consider street blockers so only people that live on this road need to come through. Again, this would only be needed on 26th Ave N. from York St. N to 29th St where it is one-way. Thank you. I really appreciate you taking care of any requests the community has.
