God forbid the Homeless Outreach Team feed the hungry or try to find him a roof! No one deserves to be fed or housed! No helping hands for ANYONE!! Good Lord please help Rnl1's soul.
Oh god mandagator.... Why dont u go pick him up and give him your yard to sleep in and feed him? The homeless population in st pete is insane. Are yoy harassed every day for money, cigs, vagrants peeing and defecating on your business property? Didnt think so. The homeless outreach team can bring them to 49th street... But the homeless DONT WANT TO GO. Because they would have rules to abide by. So again why dont you go pick him up, let him sleep pee and defecate in your yard. Get a life manda
Wow Rnl1, keep showing your heartlessness & lack of empathy. Do it loudly & proudly but keep God off your lips & fingertips b/c no God of any religion suggests casting off the downtrodden.
Do you not realize I live in this same neighborhood?? I deal with the same issues you do. However, I chose to bring the homeless food instead of chastising them for circumstances I know nothing of. I've brought them blankets & cocoa on cold nights.i've given then (gasp) money & allowed them to decide what to spend it on!! OH yes, I am an enabler. I enable them a few minutes of not stressing over some jerk calling the police on them for existing.
I have a life. I suggest you seek moral guidance b/c someone failed you along your path.
It's not a lack of empathy or heartlessness as u say. Its getting tired of seeing the same thing everyday. Its people with no respect literally dropping their pants on your property and messing all over the place. Its being harassed on a daily basis. Yes they all have a story why they are homeless and in such position but 98% of them don't want help or to change as they have become use to said 'lifestyle'. But round of applause to you for giving them help and giving them reason to keep coming back.
Perhaps you should have chosen to live in a less urban environment since it causes you such strife. How lovely that you have options. Others are not so fortunate. Homelessness isn't a new issue to St Pete, nor to this neighborhood.
& Did you miss the part where I LIVE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD??? And I don't have a car so am walking the neighborhood constantly. I've probably given YOU a big smile & "How are you today?". I actually interact with these unhoused people you scorn & call police on for existing.
Guess what happens if, instead of calling police, you tell them not to camp on your property??? Yep, they leave. They don't WANT to cause problems for you or anyone else. They simply want to be. You would know this had you chosen to treat these humans as humans instead of your personal eye sores.
You might also know that 2 of the unhoused men of our neighborhood are Veterans who fought in Vietnam for your right to whine from your electronic device. Both receive disability benefits for injuries that they incurred while fighting. That amount doesn't begin to cover what most would consider adequate housing. Did you know there is a 3+ year wait for affordable housing in St Pete? And the agency has to be able to contact you which is difficult w/out an address or phone. Do you care? These 2 gentlemen spend every other week in a weekly hotel on 34th St. It would take them 3 months of NOT SPENDING A PENNY from either of their disability checks to afford to put deposits down to share a studio apartment & they would still be rejected for not having a rental history. So they lean on each other to get by, just like they metaphorically did on the battlefield.
We also had a former teacher who moved here to care for her ailing mother. When her mom passed rent was raised (by an illegal amount but she didn't know that) & she was evicted by a greedy landlord. Unable to gain teaching certification in state, she found work as a hospitality worker & lived 6 weeks on our streets while saving money to move back up north to her remaining family. This beautiful soul saw me walking the neighborhood often & asked if SHE could help ME with rides.
Had the Homeless Outreach Team found her, they would have helped her return home sooner. You are 100% wrong in your assumptions about 98% of them & about the role of the Outreach Team.
For you to suggest not allowing the Homeless Outreach Team do their jobs, is reckless, lazy, lacking empathy, heartless & dangerous.
It is obvious where your empty heart is on this topic so again I'll suggest you use your resources to relocate to a less urban environment. Or get off your a$$ & help the unhoused instead of harassing them.
This will be my last reply b/c I suspect you may be a sociopath. YOU make me feel unsafe in ANY neighborhood. Unhoused people do not.
We work closely with various City departments and local social service providers to address issues faced by our homeless population, and we also work with neighborhood associations to address the concerns they have, as well. Our Police Department has a Street Outreach Team that actively canvasses areas where the activities of the homeless are noticed, and they will continue doing so to ensure the safety of all citizens. Please immediately report any criminal activity or safety concerns to the SPPD directly by calling 727-893-7780 if not an emergency, or 911 if an emergency. Thank you.

Thank you for reporting this. I have asked our homeless street outreach team to go by this location to offer their assistance to anyone they find in need of help. If willing to accept help, our outreach team will get them connected to shelter, housing, meals, medical care, substance abuse treatment and other services they may be in need of. I also referred this to our Police Department and asked them to monitor this location at all hours of the day. Should they encounter anyone, they will also offer their help, including free transportation to shelter. We will continue to monitor this area to offer our assistance to anyone in need of help, as well as enforce local ordinances. Thank you again for reporting this to us.
